As a super-large city with a population density of tens of millions, Guangzhou has always had a prominent transportation infrastructure demand. Recently, Guangzhou Metro Group released its 2020 annual report. According to the "Guangzhou Urban Rail Transit Network Planning Plan" (2018-2035) approved by the municipal government in November 2020, Guangzhou has planned a total of 53 rail transit lines with 2,029 kilometers. It is worth noting that, for the first time, a 160km/h-level high-speed subway has been added to this round of line network planning, that is, the Guangzhou Metropolitan Area Express Line network level, which extends from the center of Guangzhou to Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and other surrounding cities in Guangzhou. In the center, a one-hour rail economic life commuter circle from Guangzhou to the surrounding city centers is constructed.

This wheel line network is divided into three levels

From the perspective of the structure of the line network, the current wheel line network is divided into three levels, namely, high-speed subway, rapid subway and normal-speed subway. Among them, there are 5 high-speed subways, 452 kilometers in Guangzhou; 11 fast subways, 607 kilometers in Guangzhou; 37 ordinary-speed subways, 970 kilometers. The Guangzhou Metro pointed out that through the integration of the Guangzhou line network with the national railway and the intercity network, it has effectively strengthened the status of Guangzhou as a national central city and supported the leading function of the core city in the Guangzhou Greater Bay Area.

Promoting the construction of 4 263-kilometer Guangzhou Metropolitan Express Lines in the near future

The reporter learned that the 452-kilometer Guangzhou metropolitan area express network is a long-term plan for 2018-2035. In the short term, Guangzhou Metro will make every effort to promote the construction of four of the 263-kilometer Guangzhou Metropolitan Express Lines. According to the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intercity Railway Construction Plan", the 4 Guangzhou Metropolitan Express Lines recently constructed refer to the Nansha to Zhuhai (Zhongshan) intercity, Guangzhou East Railway Station to Huadu Tiangui Intercity, and Fangcun to Baiyun. Airport intercity and Foshan intercity via Guangzhou to Dongguan. Guangzhou Metro is speeding up the takeover and construction management of the Guangzhou Intercity Railway Project, and is committed to building a "Guangzhou Metropolitan Circle on Track".

First revealed the creation of "Sunac Bay Area Network"

In the “Greater Bay Area Network Planning” chapter of the Guangzhou Metro Group’s annual report, Guangzhou Metro revealed for the first time that it will build a “Sunac Bay Area Network”. The Guangzhou Metro will intervene in the "Zhuhai and Zhongshan extension of Line 18, the Dongguan extension of Line 22, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed maglev intercity railway. It will help the Guangzhou metropolitan area to quickly reach, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen dual-city linkage."

Guangzhou Metro will intervene in the construction of Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed maglev intercity railway

Since 2021, news of Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed magnetic levitation has repeatedly appeared in the newspapers. On February 24, at the press conference on Guangzhou's promotion of the construction of important global transportation hubs, the relevant planning drawings showed that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed maglev reserved line will be led from Guangzhou East Station, all the way south through Nansha, and enter Shenzhen after crossing the Pearl River Estuary. Bao'an and Qianhai finally went straight to West Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is reported that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen magnetic levitation speed is about 600 kilometers per hour, which also means that the future from Guangzhou’s central city to Hong Kong will also arrive within 20 minutes.

The construction of a high-speed maglev intercity railway in Guangzhou-Shenzhen will meet the growing travel needs of the two places, and it is also the demand for efficient interconnection in the Bay Area. At present, the railway connection between Guangzhou and Shenzhen is mainly undertaken by the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway has a lower speed, and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway is connected to Guangzhou South Railway Station, which is far away from the central area of Guangzhou. It is difficult to meet the demand for quick contact between the two city centers.
