On the morning of August 25, 2021, the mobilization activity for the construction of the Changsha West High-speed Railway Station Comprehensive Transportation Hub project was held. The project is planned to be completed in 2025 and will become an important transportation hub connecting Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong. Changsha will also enter the era of a dual high-speed rail hub.

The Changsha High-speed Railway West Station comprehensive transportation hub project is located in the Xiangjiang New District of Hunan, where the Changyi-Changzhou High-speed Railway, Chang-Gan High-speed Railway, and Chang-Zhu-Tan Intercity Rail meet at this station. Among them, the Changyichang Railway is an important part of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network from Xiamen to Chongqing and Hohhot to Nanning. It is also a key part of the Hunan high-speed rail link. The line has 5 stations in Changde, South Hanshou, South Yiyang, West Ningxiang and West Changsha, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The Yiyang-Changsha section is expected to be open to traffic in June 2022, and the Changde-Yiyang section is expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2022.

The Changsha West High-speed Railway Station Integrated Transportation Hub project has a total investment of 3.3 billion yuan and is expected to be put into use in 2025. Among them, the project scale of the station building is 85,400 square meters, with the design concept of three Hunan and four rivers, azalea blossoms, and a cross-shaped plan as the basis, shaping the overall building shape into a patchwork of azaleas, fully highlighting Changsha Geographical characteristics: The comprehensive transportation hub has a scale of 401,000 square meters, and 4 rail transit projects will be planned and implemented simultaneously, so that passengers can transfer between Changsha South Railway Station, Changsha Railway Station, and Changsha West High-speed Railway Station.

According to reports, the station is also the first high-speed rail station in China with a cross-shaped plane as the station hall layout. The added side-entrance halls and multi-storey depots under the bridge are the first domestic applications, and pass the platform level in the North Square. The three levels of ground floor and underground floor build an organic connection between the high-speed railway station and the business district in front of the station, realize the integration of the station and the city, and create a brand-new high-speed railway passenger station model.
