In December 2014, the whole Lanzhou Xinjiang High speed Railway and the second Tuku Line of South Xinjiang Railway, the longest high-speed railway in the world, were put into operation.

In December 2015, the whole Ejin Hami section of the Linkazakhstan Railway was put into operation, marking the official completion of the second Xinjiang railway corridor.

In December 2020, the whole line of Geku Railway will be put into operation, and the third major channel of Xinjiang Railway will be formed.

In June 2022, the Horuo Railway will be put into operation, and the Taklimakan Desert Railway will complete the "closed loop".

The opening of the Lanzhou Xinjiang high-speed railway has released more than twice the freight capacity of the existing Lanzhou Xinjiang railway, with an annual transport capacity of more than 400 million tons; The transportation channels of coal, cotton, melons and fruits and other advantageous resources in Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and Central Asia have been further expanded, so that the resource advantages can be rapidly transformed into economic advantages.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the operating mileage of Xinjiang railway has increased from 4914.2 km in 2012 to 7759.4 km in 2021, covering more than 80% of the county-level administrative regions in Xinjiang.

In 2013, after the initiative of jointly building the the Belt and Road was put forward, the "iron and steel caravan" has shown new vitality. China EU trains from many places in China have successively passed through Xinjiang to Central Asia and Europe.

In 2022, the Alashankou railway port will add 22 new China Europe train routes, and the port will have 91 China Europe train routes in total; Horgos Railway Port has added 9 new China Europe train routes, and the port has a total of 73 China Europe train routes.
