On December 13, 2022, the international engineering company affiliated to PowerChina and PowerChina (Laos) Company signed the EPC general contract for the 600 MW wind power project in Muangson, Laos with Monson Wind Power Co., Ltd. According to reports, this project is another major breakthrough for PowerChina to implement the green energy revolution and promote the energy transformation of Laos.

The projects are distributed in Xegong Province and Attapeu Province of Laos. The main contents of the project include 600 MW wind farm, booster station and transmission line. This project is the first wind power project in Laos, and it is also the largest wind power project that Power China has undertaken overseas. The contract value is about 717 million U.S. dollars, equivalent to about 5.083 billion yuan in RMB. The project mode is EPC general contracting. The total construction period of the project is 28 months, and the warranty period is 60 months.

After the completion of the project, it will mainly transmit electricity to Vietnam. This is the first time that Laos has realized the cross-border transmission of new energy electricity. It will effectively alleviate the power shortage in central Vietnam and help Laos further build its vision of batteries in Southeast Asia. During the life cycle of the project, it is estimated that 35 million tons of carbon emissions can be reduced.

Since PowerChina entered the Lao market in 1996, it has completed more than 130 projects with a contract value of about US$4 billion, and 3 direct investment projects with an investment of more than US$3 billion. PowerChina has extensively participated in project contracting and investment in Laos' electric power, transportation, municipal and other fields, and is an important participant in Laos' economic construction and development. The company's major projects in Laos, such as the Nam Ou River Basin Cascade Power Station, the Nam Nga 5 Hydropower Station, the China-Laos Railway, and the Dong Sahong Hydropower Station, have made outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Laos and the promotion of the friendship between China and Laos.
