Recently, in the presence of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, DP World and the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) have reached a 30 year franchise agreement aimed at managing and modernizing the multi-functional port of Dar es Salaam, further assisting Tanzania and its surrounding areas in better integrating into the global market. The signing of the agreement was officially carried out by the Director of the Tanzania Port Authority and Mr. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of Dubai Global Ports Group.

Dubai Global Ports Group plans to modernize and upgrade the Dar es Salaam port, aiming to improve port operational efficiency and bring higher quality transportation and logistics services to Tanzania and its surrounding areas. This is the beginning of a phased investment plan, with the initial investment expected to exceed $250 million, and the total investment during the franchise period may reach $1 billion, which will also cover hinterland logistics projects. It is expected that this investment will bring significant benefits to Tanzania's socio-economic development, such as creating more job opportunities and providing a richer range of goods and services.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World Group, stated that, We are honored to collaborate with the Tanzanian government to revitalize the Port of Dar es Salaam. This is in line with Tanzania's strategic development plan, which will bring trade opportunities to the region, connect East Africa and wider sub Saharan Africa with global markets, drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, enhance access to products and services, and create value for all stakeholders. Together with other stakeholders we operate Like ports, this franchise agreement marks another milestone in our collective efforts to leverage DP World's global and local expertise to strengthen the supply chain in the region to support the economic growth of the entire continent.

By connecting Dar es Salaam Port with highways, railways, and dedicated freight corridors, the port will better serve the hinterland of Sub-Saharan Africa to meet the rapid growth of logistics demand on the continent and connect local enterprises more closely with the global market.

Dar es Salaam Port will achieve closer connectivity with the hinterland of Sub-Saharan Africa through transportation methods such as roads, railways, and dedicated freight corridors, in order to better meet the growing logistics demand of the African continent and integrate enterprises in the region more closely into the global market. To achieve this goal, DP World will work closely with TPA and existing stakeholders at the port to accelerate cargo clearance and optimize cargo planning, thereby improving the operational efficiency of Dar es Salaam Port. This will help strengthen its gateway position in the green energy metal field of the Central and South African copper belt, and attract more shipping companies and large ships to come and dock, ultimately reducing the shipping costs for Tanzanian importers and exporters.

Mr. Plasduce Mkeli Mbossa, Director of the Tanzania Port Authority, said: We are pleased to collaborate with DP World to modernize the Dar es Salaam strategic port. This project will create enormous value for end-users and help the government achieve its goal of reducing logistics costs. This strategic initiative demonstrates our ability to promote large-scale infrastructure development through collaboration with strategic participants, which will enable the government to redirect funds to other key economic areas for the benefit of the Tanzanian people Domain And it was stated that the signing of a franchise agreement between the Tanzanian government and DP World is indeed a major event, marking another major breakthrough in Tanzania's construction of first-class infrastructure under the public-private partnership model. With DP World's expertise, Dar es Salaam Port will support industries such as transportation, distribution, and supply chain. Importantly, the Tanzania Port Authority will become a shareholder of the port concession company, and its employees will not be unemployed.

Thank you to the Tanzanian government for its investment in infrastructure construction in recent years. Dubai Global Port Group will work closely with TPA and other stakeholders to improve the customs clearance speed and optimize cargo planning of Dar es Salaam Port, in order to further highlight the port's role as an offshore gateway for copper mines and green energy metals in central and southern Africa. With the improvement of operational efficiency, more shipping companies and large ships will choose Dar es Salaam as their destination, providing more economical shipping options for Tanzanian importers and exporters. This will help reduce transportation costs, improve trade efficiency, and bring more opportunities for Tanzania's economic development.
