Recently, a national energy project with a total investment of about 15 billion yuan quietly kicked off on the Gobi Desert in Mingshawo Village, Yinda Town, Suzhou District. The bidding announcement for the Wutong project of the 4 × 1000MW coal-fired power plant in Badain Jaran Desert New Energy Base has just been finalized. China Energy Engineering Construction Group Co., Ltd. won this preliminary bid with a price of 102.98 million yuan. Two core engineering companies under China Energy Engineering Corporation competed on the same stage, with a price difference of less than 2.4 million yuan. The intense competition reflects the high importance that all parties attach to this strategic project.

Billion dollar coal-fired power project landed in Jiuquan

The 4 × 1000MW coal-fired power project of Badain Jaran Desert New Energy Base is located in Mingshawo Village, Yinda Town, Suzhou District, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, about 23 kilometers southwest of Suzhou urban area.

The total investment of the project is about 15 billion yuan, and four 1 million kilowatt high-efficiency ultra supercritical, one-time intermediate reheating, condensing direct air-cooled coal-fired power generation units will be constructed, which will simultaneously have heating and deep peak shaving functions. The designed annual power generation capacity is about 18 billion kilowatt hours. This project is a supporting power source for the National Energy Group's layout of a large-scale integrated energy base in the desert and Gobi, and is also a key node in the planning and promotion of the Longdian to Sichuan ultra-high voltage channel.

The winning bid for the Wutong Project has been announced

The five communication projects tendered this time involve the construction of infrastructure such as water, electricity, road, communication, and drainage at the project site.

The first candidate for winning the bid is China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., with a quotation of 102.98 million yuan; The second candidate for the bid is China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd., with a quotation of 100.58 million yuan. Both companies are under the umbrella of China Energy Construction, with a price difference of less than 2.4 million yuan. This extremely close quotation reflects the joint optimism of the bidding units towards the strategic value of the project, and also confirms the full and fierce competition in the bidding section.

Coal power escorts new energy

The technology route chosen for this project, which includes direct air cooling, deep peak shaving, and heat supply, aims to create a model for flexible and efficient coal-fired power generation in desert areas under high water-saving constraints. Keywords: Infrastructure Engineering News Network, Coal and Electricity Projects

Direct air cooling saves a lot of water resource consumption, while deep peak shaving allows the unit to frequently and quickly adjust its output, providing real-time support for wind and solar fluctuations. Heating further improves the overall energy efficiency of the plant. The Badain Jaran Desert New Energy Base is a large-scale clean energy base planned by the state, and the Longdian Sichuan Passage will transport the green electricity here to the Southwest Load Center. Without strong support from power sources, the randomness and intermittency of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power will seriously constrain channel utilization. Coal power is essentially a green power escort, with efficient ultra supercritical parameters and ultimate flexibility design, freeing up consumption space for more new energy.Editor/Gao Xue
