Recently, the transportation department of Guangzhou held a grand preliminary design review meeting for the East Extension Project of Guangzhou Metro Line 8 (from Wanshengwei to Lianhua). According to the spirit of the 2024 Guangzhou Municipal Government Work Report, the line will strive to achieve the goal of starting construction this year, adding a new chapter to Guangzhou's transportation construction.

At the review meeting, the attending experts conducted a detailed on-site survey of the East Extension Project of Line 8 (from Wanshengwei to Lianhua), listened to the detailed report of the design unit, and received valuable opinions and suggestions from the representatives of the attending units. After careful review and enthusiastic discussion of the design documents, a unanimous review opinion was finally formed by the expert group, which agreed that the preliminary design document passed the review and smoothly moved on to the next stage of work.

It is understood that the East Extension Project of Line 8 (from Wanshengwei to Lianhua) has a total length of 18 kilometers and adopts an all underground laying method, with a total of 8 stations, namely Lianhua Station, Longze Road Station, Mengdi Station, Hualong Station, Zhanmao City Station, Changzhou Station, Xinzhou Station, and Fengpu Park Station. Among them, there are 4 transfer stations with an average distance of 2.2 kilometers between them. The route will use 6-car A-type cars with a maximum design speed of 80 kilometers per hour, demonstrating efficient and convenient transportation characteristics.

As an extension of the already operational Line 8, the completion of this line will effectively connect Guangzhou's second CBD Pazhou, Huangpu Central District Changzhou Island area, Hualong Town Central District, International Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center, and Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Industry Park, among other recently planned key development areas. In addition, the line will also connect with the Foshan Dongguan Intercity Railway and the Foshan Guangzhou Shenzhen Intercity Railway, which is of great significance for promoting regional coordinated development and accelerating the integration of the four networks in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

The successful convening of this preliminary design review meeting marks a solid step forward for the Guangzhou Metro Line 8 East Extension Project (from Wanshengwei to Lianhua).
