Afghanistan, a land of vicissitudes, is embarking on a historic project. For a long time, water shortage has been a key factor restricting the country's agricultural development and improving people's livelihood. In order to break this dilemma, since March 2022, Afghanistan has launched an ambitious project in Balkh province - the construction of a large canal called "Kushtepa". The canal represents not only a huge step forward in Afghanistan's infrastructure development, but also one of the country's largest and most important projects. The canal will draw water from the Amu Darya River in the Kardar district of Balkh province, with a flow rate of up to 650 cubic meters per second, providing strong water resources to support Afghanistan's agricultural production and livelihood needs.
The scale and grandeur of the new canal is breathtaking. It is 285 kilometers long, 100 meters wide and 8.5 meters deep, like a giant dragon winding across the land of Afghanistan. The cost of the project is about $684 million, which fully demonstrates the importance and commitment of the Afghan government to this project. The construction of the canal is funded by the state and is scheduled to be fully completed in 2028, when it will greatly improve Afghanistan's agricultural production and ecological environment.
During the construction of the canal, about 6,000 workers worked on the project. They have worked hard and braved hardships to contribute to Afghanistan's future development. At the same time, the construction of the canal has also driven the development of the local economy, bringing more jobs and business opportunities to the surrounding area.
The stated goal of the "Kushtepa" canal is to irrigate a total of 5,500 square kilometers of land in the provinces of Balkh, Jozjan and Faryab. This will greatly increase the agricultural production capacity of these areas, improve the living conditions of farmers and make an important contribution to the food security of Afghanistan. At the same time, the construction of the canal will also provide jobs for 250,000 people and further promote social stability and economic development in Afghanistan.
With the completion and use of the "Kushtepa" canal, Afghanistan's agricultural production and ecological environment will usher in new opportunities for development. The canal will become a bright business card of Afghanistan, showing the world the country's great achievements in infrastructure construction and agricultural development. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
