Recently, news came from the Muscat region of Oman's capital that Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company, a subsidiary of China Power Construction Corporation, has formed a consortium with Doosan Energy of South Korea to officially sign an EPC contract for the 1700 MW combined cycle power plant project in Misfa, Oman. This is another important breakthrough made by Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company in the high-end electricity market of Oman, following the signing of the Oman Dukam 890MW power station this year. A power station connecting Gulf capital, Oman's demand, South Korean equipment, and China's engineering capabilities is entering a new stage of energy transformation in the Middle East that requires both green and stable development.

The consortium has won a large EPC contract

The project is located in the Muscat region of the capital of Oman, with a planned installed capacity of approximately 1700MW, using advanced combined cycle gas turbine technology. Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company and Doosan Energy of South Korea have formed a consortium to be responsible for project design, procurement, and construction general contracting. According to public information, the project contract amount is approximately 930 billion Korean won, equivalent to 670 million US dollars. The project is scheduled to be fully operational in April 2029 and will become an important component of Oman's main power grid upon completion, significantly enhancing the power supply guarantee capability in the Muscat region.

Gas power station positioning stabilizer

Photovoltaics are responsible for low-cost clean electricity, wind power supplements green energy, energy storage undertakes short-term regulation, and high-efficiency gas combined cycle power plants play the role of stabilizers in the power system. The project adopts advanced gas turbines with hydrogen blending combustion capability, which can support fuel co combustion containing 30% hydrogen in the future, reserving space for low-carbon transformation. After the new energy project is connected to the grid, the power station will undertake peak shaving tasks to ensure stable operation of the power grid and meet Oman's rapidly growing electricity demand. Chinese enterprises collaborate to deepen their layout

Behind the project is a multinational consortium, with Qatar's Nebula Power responsible for development, UAE companies participating in investment, Oman's local companies participating in the project, Korean companies providing core equipment, and Chinese companies undertaking EPC construction coordination. This is another breakthrough for Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company in the Oman market, following the Dukam 890MW project, further consolidating its market advantage in the field of large-scale gas power generation projects. Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company stated that it will fully leverage its technological advantages and contractual capabilities to promote high-quality project construction, providing strong support for the optimization of Oman's energy structure and power supply security. The greater opportunities in the future lie in the design institutes, equipment suppliers, engineering contractors, material suppliers, automation enterprises, operation and maintenance service providers, and enterprises that can provide localized support that can enter the project chain. A large gas-fired power station, from civil engineering to steel structures, from anti-corrosion coatings to insulation materials, from cable trays to fire protection systems, from water treatment to industrial control, corresponds to a long supply chain. The real business opportunities are not only in the general contract, but also in the ongoing equipment procurement, spare parts supply, maintenance and renovation, and localized services.Editor/Gao Xue
