On July 8, 2024, the latest data released by the Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Group showed that as of the end of June 2024, Ningbo Zhoushan Port had achieved significant growth in cargo throughput in the first half of the year, with a total volume of 708 million tons, which was 10% higher than that in 2023. It increased by 4.2 percentage points during the same period, demonstrating strong freight handling capabilities. At the same time, in terms of container transportation, the port has also achieved remarkable results, with a cumulative container throughput of 19.165 million TEUs, achieving a year-on-year growth of 8.4%, further consolidating its status as an important global container hub port.

The overall recovery and steady growth of the economy have provided solid support for the rapid growth of China's coastal port throughput. According to the latest "China Port Operation Analysis Report 2024" released by the Planning and Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport of China, China's position in the global shipping field will be significantly enhanced in 2023, with the proportion of foreign trade shipping volume climbing to 30.1%, highlighting China's global role central role in trade. With its excellent operating capabilities and huge throughput, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has ranked first in global port cargo throughput for the fifteenth consecutive year. At the same time, it has also continued to make efforts in the field of container transportation, ranking third in the world in annual container throughput. Further consolidating its leading position as an international shipping hub.

In the first half of 2024, Ningbo Zhoushan Port took solid steps to improve logistics efficiency and expand international connections, and continued to strengthen the construction and optimization of its collection and distribution network. During this period, the port successfully opened three new international routes, further enriching its global route layout. At present, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has a total number of more than 300 routes, which demonstrates its strong strength as an international shipping center. These routes closely connect more than 200 countries and regions around the world, covering more than 600 ports, building a global route network that extends in all directions, providing strong support for the smooth flow of international trade.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port continues to explore the market hinterland inside and outside Zhejiang Province and is committed to building a more efficient and smooth logistics system and nodes. Since 2024, the port has actively opened up new routes, such as adding new trains from Paihe to Ningbo Zhoushan Port, which has increased its number of regular trains to 26. These trains widely cover and radiate to 65 places in 16 provinces across the country. The city has effectively shortened the distance with the vast hinterland areas in the central and western regions and strengthened the interconnection of the logistics network.

At the same time, Ningbo Zhoushan Port continues to expand its sea-river and river-sea intermodal transport territory. The number of sea-river intermodal transport routes has increased to 33, and its business scope has further expanded to central China. It is particularly worth mentioning that the successful maiden voyage of the Zhoushan-Chongqing Jianghai direct route marks a new breakthrough for the port in promoting waterway cargo transportation, and all types of cargo transportation volume have shown a good trend of steady growth.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
