A new cargo terminal with an annual throughput of 120,000 tons has been officially put into operation, and its throughput is four times that of the previous one. The new cargo facilities are equipped with modern equipment and dedicated storage areas. The cargo complex covers an area of 5.2 hectares and includes warehouse facilities, a three-story administrative building, and a parking lot. The floor area of the warehouse is 8,500 square meters, of which 500 square meters are used to set up cold storage rooms and freezers to store goods that require a specific temperature environment.
There are dedicated areas in the cargo terminal for storing plants, live animals, valuable items, food, and pharmaceuticals. All areas are equipped with temperature sensors to monitor the temperature. Previously, the cargo facilities at Tashkent Airport consisted of 20 old warehouses and administrative buildings built between 1994 and 2000, with a total throughput of 30,000 tons per year. In 2024, the airport handled approximately 80,000 tons of cargo and mail. In view of this, the airport decided to modernize the cargo terminal and began the phased relocation from the old facilities to the new cargo complex on March 20.
Kamoliddin Buxarov, the head of the cargo business development department of Uzbekistan Airport, pointed out that currently, Tashkent Airport processes an average of 200 to 250 tons of cargo per day, of which 80 tons are stored in the warehouse and the remaining 120 to 150 tons are stored outdoors. According to him, the volume of cargo handling will continue to increase. The new warehouse is equipped with modern equipment, including shelves, loading and unloading transportation equipment, packaging machinery, as well as inventory management, automation, and security systems.
Nazim Shaimardanov, the manager of UzCargo, introduced that the new administrative building has an area of 3,000 square meters and is equipped with an operation hall that provides an electronic queuing service for cargo receivers, as well as offices for UzCargo employees, customs officers, veterinary and quarantine department staff, airline representatives, and customs brokers. On the first floor of the operation hall, cargo receivers are received through the electronic queuing system, and the offices are located on the second and third floors. In addition, a parking lot is provided for visitors, which can accommodate cars and freight vehicles.
Uzbekistan Airport Company announced the plan to build the new terminal in April 2024. At that time, the company stated that in the second phase, by the end of 2025, it plans to build a cargo warehouse with an area of 12,000 square meters, including 1,000 square meters of modern cold storage and freezing facilities that can provide different temperature environments.
