On May 17, local time in Tarawa, Kiribati, the renovation project of Buta Bridge in Kiribati undertaken by China Railway First Bureau was successfully completed and officially opened to traffic. Over 200 people attended the opening ceremony, including Kiribati President Taneti Maamau, Vice President Teuea Toatu, Speaker of Parliament Willie Tokataake, representatives of members of the Kiribati government, Minister of Infrastructure Tekuea Tarawa, heads of relevant departments, Zhao Jian, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati, and all members of China's education assistance team, medical team, and police team in Kiribati.

In his speech, Tekuea Tarawa warmly congratulated on the completion and opening of the Buta Bere Bridge renovation project, affirmed the high-quality and efficient construction by China Railway First Bureau, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all builders for their hard work. He pointed out that the Buta Bere Bridge is an important infrastructure project in Kiribati in recent years and a livelihood project benefiting the country and its people. After the bridge opens to traffic, it will greatly benefit the daily travel of surrounding residents and provide strong support for promoting economic trade and cultural exchanges in the areas along the route.

At the opening ceremony, two public representatives cut the ribbon for the opening, and Taneti Maamau and Tarawa jointly unveiled the project plaque engraved with "China Railway First Bureau Undertakes the Second Phase Project of Buta Bere Bridge."

It is reported that the Buta Bere Bridge in Kiribati is located in Tarawa, the capital of Kiribati, and is an important passage connecting South and North Tarawa. The bridge was built in the 1990s and has long suffered from seawater erosion, leading to severe damage. The renovated Buta Bere Bridge has a total length of 55 meters, a width of 5 meters, a clear width of 3.15 meters, and a designed driving speed of 5 kilometers per hour. After completion and opening to traffic, it not only completely solves the traffic hazards caused by the disrepair of the original bridge due to its long service life but also effectively relieves regional traffic pressure. It has injected strong momentum into expanding urban development space and accelerating regional integrated development.
