Recently, Iran has actively sought to join the China Belt and Road Initiative, and reached a consensus with Pakistan to greatly increase the bilateral trade volume from the current $3 billion to $10 billion. This important consensus was reached during the visit of Iranian President Pezehiqiyan to Pakistan, and the two sides signed a number of cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, transportation and trade.

In terms of regional connectivity, Iran hopes to deeply connect with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and strengthen the construction of "intermediate corridor" (international transportation corridor across Caspian Sea) to improve the freight efficiency between China and Europe. The two sides paid special attention to the Gwadar-Qa 'Bahar Port cooperation project, aiming at forming a new land-sea combined transport channel. At the same time, the upgrade plans of Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Railway and Quetta-Zahedan Railway have also been put on the agenda, which will significantly enhance the freight capacity of regional railways.

Energy cooperation has become one of the focuses of the talks. The two sides decided to restart the Iran-Pakistan natural gas pipeline project that has been shelved for many years, which will effectively alleviate Pakistan's energy shortage after completion. In addition, the two countries also agreed to set up bilateral working groups to simplify cross-border trade procedures and focus on promoting investment cooperation in the fields of energy, mining and information technology.

Iranian President Pezehiqiyan said that connecting the Belt and Road through Pakistan will make Iran more deeply integrated into the Eurasian economic network. It is expected that in October, 2025, Bayi will also jointly attend the multinational ministerial conference held in Pakistan to further promote regional economic integration.
