On August 13, 2025, the Department of Energy of the Republic of the Philippines announced that the Tantangan solar power plant located in Mindanao has officially started construction. The project is jointly developed by Apolaki Seven in the Philippines and ib vogt GmbH in Germany. After completion, it will provide clean electricity to over 82000 households through the national power grid.
Project planning and benefits:
Annual power generation: over 150000 megawatt hours
Annual emission reduction: approximately 66000 tons of carbon dioxide
Construction progress: The first phase of the 40 MW AC power project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026

Mylene Capongcol, Deputy Secretary of Energy of the Republic of the Philippines, stated that the Tantangan project is an important measure to promote the development of renewable energy in our country, and will help achieve the strategic goal of renewable energy accounting for 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The first phase of the project has obtained development permits through the Philippine Green Energy Auction Program 2.
As an important renewable energy project in Mindanao, the completion of Tantangan Solar Power Plant will effectively optimize the power structure of the Philippines, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, create employment opportunities for the local area, and promote sustainable regional economic development.
