On August 16, the Timor-Leste Watuwa Modob irrigation project undertaken by CNNC 22 Company, a subsidiary of CNNC, officially started. The launch of this large-scale agricultural infrastructure project marks the fruitful fruit of the Belt and Road Initiative in the field of agricultural cooperation in Southeast Asia, and will inject strong impetus into Timor-Leste's agricultural development and people's livelihood improvement.
Timor-Leste's agricultural development has long been limited by natural conditions, and farmland irrigation is highly dependent on precipitation, resulting in low irrigation rates and unstable agricultural production capacity, which seriously restricts the process of agricultural modernization. The Watuwa Modob irrigation project, which is planned to irrigate 1,219 hectares of farmland, is expected to be completed in 2028, which will fundamentally change the status quo of Timor-Leste's dependence on natural water system irrigation - after the completion of the project, the proportion of local controllable irrigation water resources will exceed 85%, and the farmland irrigation coverage rate will be greatly improved, directly promoting the transformation of agricultural production to intensive and stabilized.

According to reports, the project will not only double the income of farmers along the route, but also lay the foundation for the sustainable development of Timor-Leste's agriculture through the construction of systematic irrigation facilities and help it achieve the goal of agricultural modernization. As the contractor, CNNC has been deeply involved in the infrastructure construction and municipal affairs of Timor-Leste for many years, and has made important contributions to the local economic and social development with Chinese technology, Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions.
CNNC said that it will rely on its rich experience in irrigation system construction, project management and other fields to promote project construction with high standards and high quality. In the future, the Group will deepen cooperation with the Timor-Leste government to promote the implementation of more agricultural infrastructure projects, continue to improve the well-being of local people, and help improve the quality and upgrading of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two Gulf countries.
