Bor, a mining city with over a hundred years of history in eastern Serbia, is undergoing a green transformation. In the past, while mining and smelting brought economic prosperity, they also burdened this land with heavy environmental costs. Nowadays, with the arrival of Zijin Mining, the concept of "developing while managing" is revitalizing the old mining area.

In 2018, Zijin Mining and the Serbian government jointly established Serbia Zijin Copper (Serbia Zijin Copper), fully introducing green mining concepts and management technologies. Zijin Mining is renovating and upgrading its copper mine, promoting the mining area to break away from the previous extensive and highly polluting development model, and injecting new sustainable development momentum into this century old mining city.
Zijin Mining has implemented ecological reclamation on approximately 350000 square meters of exposed land in the Borlao waste dump, and built 19 environmental protection pumping stations for the recovery of leachate. At the same time, technological transformation was carried out on the smelting plant, the desulfurization system was rebuilt, dust control and flue gas treatment were strengthened, pollutant emissions were significantly reduced, and the environmental quality of the mining area was significantly improved.

For over 8 years, Zijin Mining has adhered to the concept of "developing while managing" and applied China's green transformation experience to Serbia. Bor City has gradually moved from a heavily polluted area to a green recovery, and this cooperation model has become a benchmark for pragmatic cooperation in the green field between China and Serbia, providing a replicable Chinese solution for the transformation of mining cities in Central and Eastern Europe.Editor/Gao Xue
