Iran is advancing a $6.63 billion transportation infrastructure development plan, which is managed by the Iranian Road Maintenance and Transport Organization. The project aims to comprehensively enhance the capacity, safety, and intelligence of the domestic transportation network.

According to the plan, $1.9 billion will be dedicated to bridge construction and upgrading: on the one hand, new construction projects for 34 new bridges will be launched, and on the other hand, maintenance, repair or functional improvement work will be carried out on the existing 115 bridges. Considering that road safety is a prominent issue in Iran's transportation sector, a special allocation of 510 million US dollars is planned to implement safety optimization for 281 accident prone road sections in the national highway network, reducing the risk of traffic accidents from the perspective of hardware renovation.

In addition to the renovation of bridges and accident prone areas, this infrastructure upgrade also covers multiple key areas: the introduction of a new intelligent transportation system (ITS) will optimize traffic flow, enhance traffic safety through technological means, and alleviate traffic congestion and delays in major cities; At the same time, large-scale maintenance, re paving operations, and safety supporting construction will be carried out on rural roads to further improve rural transportation connectivity; In addition, the functional improvement of key border transportation facilities and highway service areas has also been included in the scope of this project, helping to enhance regional transportation service capabilities.
