The signing ceremony of the project to transform the Mongolian yurt area in Ulaanbaatar using solar photovoltaic systems, supported by the Global Development and South South Cooperation Fund, was grandly held in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. This project will bring new opportunities for the green development of the Mongolian yurt area in Ulaanbaatar.
In her speech, Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia Shen Minjuan pointed out that China has always adhered to the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, upheld the concept of friendly, sincere, beneficial and inclusive diplomacy with neighboring countries, and actively promoted the transformation of green energy with technological and scale advantages. This project will directly benefit 500 households in Ulaanbaatar city, which is a vivid manifestation of China's firm support for the work of the United Nations and its emphasis on international development assistance. Through the Global Development and South South Cooperation Fund, China will continue to contribute to the well-being of the people in Mongolia.
The representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Mongolia, Dimovska, has a firsthand experience. He came to Mongolia two years ago and personally experienced the harsh winter temperatures and pungent air pollution in the Mongolian yurt area. Now, thanks to China's support, this project will bring warm and clean air to families in the Mongolian yurt area. He expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese government and people.

The Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Amartuvsin, is also full of expectations for the project. He stated that the project is of great significance and will significantly improve the environmental and public health conditions in the Mongolian yurt area of Ulaanbaatar, reduce households' dependence on coal, effectively reduce air pollution, and help Mongolia transition to solar heating. He thanked the Chinese government for its positive contributions to this end.
In fact, prior to the official signing, the United Nations Development Programme's representative office in Mongolia had already conducted beneficial pilot projects. In 2024, a solar photovoltaic system equipped with battery energy storage and thermal storage electric heaters was provided to 69 households in the Mongolian yurt area of Ulaanbaatar city. The system also innovatively integrates artificial intelligence driving modules to monitor carbon emissions reduction and convert it into carbon credits. On this basis, the project supported by the Global Development and South South Cooperation Fund will be implemented in Qing'ertai District of Ulaanbaatar, covering 500 households and promoting the transition to clean energy.
