Guangdong Electric Power Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangdong Energy Group, recently announced that its board of directors has officially approved the proposal to invest in and construct the Guangdong Energy Zhuhai Gaolan Second Sea Wind Power Project. This major clean energy project with a total investment of 5.66 billion yuan marks a solid step forward for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area in promoting energy structure transformation.

According to the announcement, the project is located in the vast sea area south of Gaolan Island and Hebao Island in Zhuhai City, with a total planned construction scale of 500 megawatts. The project plans to deploy 36 large-scale wind turbines with a single capacity of no less than 14 megawatts, which will fully utilize the power generation efficiency of the most advanced wind turbines currently available. At the same time, the project will be accompanied by the construction of a 500 kV offshore boosting station and an onshore centralized control center, forming a complete offshore wind power generation grid connected system.

As a key clean energy project promoted by Guangdong Province, the Zhuhai Gaolan Erhai Wind Power Project is expected to meet the annual electricity demand of about 500000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1 million tons annually after its completion. The implementation of this project will effectively promote the large-scale development of the offshore wind power industry in Guangdong Province, and provide stable and reliable green power guarantee for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

In recent years, Guangdong Province has continued to promote energy structure adjustment, taking offshore wind power as an important lever to achieve the dual carbon goals. According to the Guangdong Province Offshore Wind Power Development Plan (2021-2030), by the end of 2025, the province aims to build an offshore wind power installed capacity of approximately 18 million kilowatts. The launch of the Zhuhai Gaolan II project is a concrete implementation of this strategic deployment.

Industry experts point out that the project adopts large capacity wind turbines of 14 megawatts or more, reflecting the latest achievements of China's offshore wind power technology. With the advancement of the project, it will drive the development of the entire industry chain, including wind power equipment manufacturing, offshore engineering construction, and operation and maintenance services, injecting new impetus into the regional economy.
