The Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt recently announced significant progress in its localization plan for photovoltaic manufacturing. Walid Gamal El Din, the chairman of the economic zone, revealed in an interview that three new photovoltaic manufacturing plants will be put into operation from December 2025. This series of projects will significantly enhance Egypt's independent production capacity in the field of solar energy manufacturing, marking a substantial step towards building a complete photovoltaic industry chain.
Clarify the production schedule and build a complete industrial chain
According to the detailed plan released by the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt, three photovoltaic manufacturing plants will be put into operation in stages. The first factory will be officially put into operation in December 2025, the second factory is planned to start production in March 2026, and the third factory is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2027. This clear timeline demonstrates Egypt's firm determination to promote the development of renewable energy manufacturing industry. The Suez Canal Economic Zone is making every effort to promote the localization strategy of the entire industry chain of solar panel production, planning to cover all manufacturing links from glass, solar cells to complete modules, in order to enhance Egypt's independent development capability in the field of renewable energy.

Chinese funded enterprises deeply participate and become the main force of construction
Chinese companies have played a key role in these three key factories. The first factory to be put into operation in December is highly compatible with the investment project of Boda New Energy. It is reported that Boda New Energy will start construction in the Suez China Egypt Teda Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in December 2024, with a total investment of 150 million US dollars. The project plans to build a 2GW photovoltaic cell production line and a 3GW module production line. Another factory invested and constructed by Xinlinfei has laid the foundation in June 2025 and is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2026. The first phase of this photovoltaic complex project with a total investment of 200 million US dollars will build two full industry chain factories, each with an annual production capacity of 2GW of photovoltaic cells and modules, fully demonstrating the technological strength and investment of Chinese enterprises in the field of overseas photovoltaic manufacturing.
Diversified layout of cross-border cooperation and improvement of industrial ecology
The third factory is led by Atom Solar Egypt, a representative multinational cooperative consortium. The members of the consortium include JA Solar from China, Southern Global Utility Company from the United Arab Emirates, Infiniti Capital from Bahrain, and AH Industrial Management Company from Egypt.

The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027, with a planned annual output of 2GW solar modules and 2GW solar cells, and an innovative 1GWh energy storage system. This combination of light and storage further enriches the business structure of Egypt's new energy industry and provides a guarantee for the stability of the future power grid. The continuous promotion of this series of major projects will effectively enhance Egypt's local photovoltaic manufacturing capabilities and help achieve the country's strategic goal of self-sufficiency in electricity. At the same time, these projects also provide new opportunities and cooperation models for the development of Chinese new energy enterprises in overseas markets. With the successive production of these manufacturing bases, Egypt is expected to become an important photovoltaic manufacturing center in North Africa and have a positive radiation effect on the development of renewable energy in neighboring countries. It is expected that by 2027, after all projects are put into operation, Egypt will form a complete photovoltaic manufacturing industry system, injecting new impetus into its energy transformation and economic development.
