Recently, the major green hydrogen project integrating wind, solar and hydrogen production in Zhengxiangbai Banner, Inner Mongolia, with a total investment of 30.7 billion yuan, successfully passed the feasibility study report review, marking that the project has officially entered the substantive promotion stage. As a core benchmark project for regional energy structure transformation, the implementation of the project will inject strong impetus into the large-scale development of China's green hydrogen industry and provide important support for achieving the "dual carbon" goal.

It is reported that the Zhengxiangbaiqi Green Hydrogen Project relies on the abundant wind and solar energy resources in Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia, and plans to build a 3 million kilowatt wind and solar power generation base, supporting the construction of core projects such as electrolytic water hydrogen production equipment, hydrogen storage facilities, and hydrogen transmission pipelines, forming a full industry chain layout of "green electricity hydrogen production hydrogen storage hydrogen transmission". The project is designed to produce over 200000 tons of green hydrogen annually, with oxygen as a byproduct. Once completed, it will become one of the leading single unit green hydrogen production bases in China. Among them, green hydrogen products will mainly supply key hydrogen consuming industries such as coal chemical, steel, and non-ferrous metals in the surrounding areas, replacing traditional fossil fuel hydrogen production, significantly reducing the carbon emission intensity of the industrial sector, and promoting the green transformation of high energy consuming industries.

The project is located in Zhengxiangbai Banner, the core area of China's northern clean energy base, with wind energy reserves of over 50 million kilowatts and an annual solar radiation of over 6000 megajoules per square meter, possessing a natural endowment for the development of the green hydrogen industry. The planning and construction of this project will not only efficiently develop and utilize regional clean energy, but also achieve on-site consumption and conversion storage of renewable energy through wind solar hydrogen production mode, solve the problem of "abandoning wind and solar power" in new energy, and build a new type of power system for coordinated development of "source grid load hydrogen storage". At the same time, the project will simultaneously build a smart energy management platform, using technologies such as big data and the Internet of Things to achieve intelligent control of the entire production process, ensuring the efficiency and stability of green hydrogen production.

From the perspective of industrial value, the implementation of this project will fill the gap in large-scale green hydrogen production in central and western Inner Mongolia, drive the development of upstream and downstream industrial clusters such as hydrogen production equipment, hydrogen storage materials, and hydrogen energy transportation, and is expected to create thousands of job opportunities, injecting new vitality into local economic development. In addition, the project replaces fossil fuels with green hydrogen to produce hydrogen, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 15 million tons annually. This is of great significance for improving the regional ecological environment and promoting energy structure optimization. Under the guidance of the "dual carbon" goal, the project will provide replicable and promotable practical experience for the large-scale and commercial development of China's green hydrogen industry, helping hydrogen energy become an important component of the future energy system.

At present, the project owner unit has collaborated with the technical team to carry out preliminary design, construction drawing design, and other follow-up work, while simultaneously promoting the handling of preliminary procedures such as land planning and environmental impact assessment approval. It is planned to officially start construction in 2025 and be fully completed and put into operation in 2028. In the future, with the implementation and operation of the project, Zhengxiangbai Banner is expected to become the core hub for the development of hydrogen energy industry in northern China, promoting the deep integration of regional energy transformation and high-quality economic development, and setting a new benchmark for clean energy substitution and green low-carbon development nationwide.Editor/Bian Wenjun
