When the blades of the wind farm in Songyuan, Jilin slowly rotate, the photovoltaic panels on the Gobi Desert cover the sky, and clean electricity is directly supplied to the chemical park through pipelines. After the electrolysis cell decomposes water molecules, it is converted into pure green hydrogen. On December 16th, China Energy Construction's "Green Hydrogen No.1" Songyuan Green Hydrogen Ammonia Alcohol Integration Project Phase I was officially put into operation. This world's largest green hydrogen project, with the innovative model of "wind solar hydrogen ammonia alcohol integration", has pushed the Chinese solution of green electricity to green hydrogen to a new stage of industrialization, providing a replicable and promotable practical sample for global industrial decarbonization.

As the core carrier of China's energy transformation, green hydrogen is known as the "zero carbon energy currency". Its production process relies entirely on renewable energy electrolysis of water and does not produce any greenhouse gas emissions. It is a key path to solving the emission reduction dilemma of "difficult to decarbonize" industries such as refining and chemical engineering. The "Green Hydrogen No.1" project innovatively connects the entire industry chain of "green electricity production green hydrogen production hydrogen storage and transportation hydrogen based chemical industry". It plans to build 3 million kilowatts of wind and photovoltaic new energy power generation equipment, supporting an annual output of 800000 tons of green synthetic ammonia and green methanol equipment. The first phase of the 800000 kilowatt new energy power generation equipment has been completed and put into use, forming an annual production capacity of 45000 tons of green hydrogen, 200000 tons of green ammonia and green methanol, which is equivalent to saving about 600000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.4 million tons per year. It is equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of planting 7.78 million trees every year.

The core breakthrough of the project lies in overcoming the world-class problem of coupling new energy fluctuations with stable chemical production. Faced with the intermittent challenges of photovoltaic and wind power generation, the project adopts the technical route of "direct wind and solar power supply+energy storage peak shaving+efficient electrolytic hydrogen production system+dynamic ammonia synthesis integration", and independently develops an intelligent control system to achieve "load following source movement", allowing the electronic control equipment and hydrogen production equipment to respond and match synchronously, successfully solving the industry pain points of green electricity flexible hydrogen production. More noteworthy is that the project has set four world records: the world's largest green hydrogen production capacity of 45000 tons/year, the world's largest hydrogen storage capacity of 450000 cubic meters in spherical tanks, the world's largest hydrogen production equipment consisting of 64 thousand cubic meters of electrolytic cells, and the world's widest load adjustment range for flexible production processes of green electricity directly coupled with hydrogen ammonia alcohol. Multiple technologies have filled domestic gaps.

The localization of the entire industry chain is another highlight of the project. From photovoltaic modules and wind turbines to electrolytic cells, hydrogen storage tanks, and hydrogen transmission pipelines, the major equipment and core materials used in the project have been 100% localized, directly driving the expansion of domestic alkaline electrolytic cell production capacity from less than 0.5 gigawatts in 2021 to 5 gigawatts currently. The number of production enterprises has increased nearly tenfold, promoting the leapfrog development of China's green hydrogen equipment industry. Relying on the abundant wind and solar resources in Songyuan area, the project has built a complete industrial loop of upstream photovoltaic power generation, midstream hydrogen production and storage, and downstream green hydrogen refining. The produced green hydrogen can not only directly replace traditional coal hydrogen production and natural gas hydrogen production for chemical production, but also solve the problem of hydrogen energy storage and transportation by synthesizing green ammonia and green methanol, and is widely used in fields such as ocean shipping and fertilizer production.

The production of the project has profound industrial value and international influence. On the day of production, it obtained the ISCC EU green certification and signed the world's first green ammonia ocean shipping fuel sales contract. Its green chemical products can be exported without EU carbon tariffs, with a cost advantage of over $300 per ton, opening the door to the international green market for China's high-end chemical products. As one of the first batch of green and low-carbon advanced technology demonstration projects of the National Development and Reform Commission, more than 100 patents, proprietary technologies, standards and specifications formed by the "Green Hydrogen No.1" project are being exported to Saudi Arabia, Brazil and other countries through the "the Belt and Road" project. Its development model of "single breakthrough - industrial chain extension - regional transformation" has attracted 23 upstream and downstream enterprises to settle in Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park, which is expected to drive more than 8000 jobs, with an annual GDP contribution of more than 5 billion yuan, providing a successful example for the green transformation of traditional industrial cities.

From Kuche in Xinjiang to Ordos in Inner Mongolia, and then to Songyuan in Jilin, China has formed multiple large-scale green hydrogen demonstration bases, with green hydrogen production capacity accounting for over 50% of the global total, becoming a leading country in renewable energy hydrogen production worldwide. The official launch of "Green Hydrogen One" not only marks the transition of China's green hydrogen industry from demonstration exploration to large-scale commercial application, but also injects strong impetus into the global energy transformation with the Chinese wisdom of technological innovation and industrial synergy. In the future, as the production capacity of the second phase of the project increases to 150000 tons per year, the annual carbon reduction will reach 4.6 million tons. This' natural converter 'will continue to write the miracle of reducing emissions from green electricity to green hydrogen, and help accelerate the achievement of the' dual carbon 'goal.Editor/Bian Wenjun
