On the vast Urad grassland, the howling wind is being given a new mission. Recently, the integrated wind solar hydrogen production project of Goldwind Technology Urad Middle Banner, with a total investment of 18.92 billion yuan, has officially received pre-approval from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Energy Bureau. This is not only the starting point of a super project, but also a milestone in China's energy transformation process, marking the substantial acceleration stage of the large-scale development of the green hydrogen industry.

3 million kilowatts of wind power 'turning wind into hydrogen'

The project is located in Ganqimaodu Port Processing Park, Urad Middle Banner, Bayannur City. It plans a grand new energy matrix: 3 million kilowatts of wind power installed capacity, supporting 450000 kilowatts/135000 kilowatt hours of electric energy storage system. Its core output is 146600 tons of green hydrogen per year, which will be stored in 1.32 million standard cubic meters of hydrogen storage facilities and used entirely for downstream chemical production, ultimately converted into 600000 tons/year of green methanol and 400000 tons/year of green ammonia. The project will be promoted in two phases, with the first phase investing 9.79 billion yuan and the second phase investing 9.13 billion yuan, jointly forming a complete integrated chain of green hydrogen production, storage, and utilization.

Inner Mongolia builds a national hydrogen energy industry highland

This project is a key milestone in the grand layout of the hydrogen energy industry in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Relying on wind energy technology, which accounts for more than half of the country's exploitable resources, Inner Mongolia is making every effort to build a hydrogen energy development pattern of "one zone, six bases, and one corridor". The "Ehu Baowu" urban agglomeration is the core of the industrial demonstration zone, covering six major bases including green hydrogen production, technology research and development, equipment manufacturing, and application bases. It is planned to build a "hydrogen energy economic corridor" that connects the entire region by 2030. At present, the entire region has approved 39 integrated wind solar hydrogen production projects, with a completed hydrogen production scale of 60000 tons per year, ranking in the leading position in the country.

Cracking the green electricity consumption and laying the foundation for "Mongolian hydrogen export"

The progress of the project benefits from clear and effective policy support. Inner Mongolia has issued a series of documents to provide comprehensive support in terms of power grid guarantee, approval process, etc., clarifying the temporary fee reduction for self generated electricity consumption of relevant projects, greatly optimizing the investment environment. More forward-looking is that Inner Mongolia has taken the lead in formulating the country's first provincial-level green hydrogen pipeline plan, constructing a pipeline network architecture of "one main, two loops, and four outlets", aiming to solve the problem of large-scale green electricity consumption and provide a smooth artery for the future "Mongolian hydrogen export", transforming the "green wind" of grasslands into green energy that can be transported across regions. With the launch of this iconic 18.9 billion yuan project, Inner Mongolia is transitioning from a traditional energy base to the forefront of the new energy revolution. It will not only activate the abundant local scenic resources, but also carry the strategic expectation of providing green hydrogen energy solutions for the low-carbon transformation in northern China and even beyond.
