On January 2, 2026, the Press Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council announced the "Top Ten Super Projects of Central Enterprises in 2025", and the State Grid Longdong-Shandong ±800 KV UHV DC project was selected.

Based on comprehensive media reports and recommendations from netizens, the SASAC News Center carefully selected 20 super projects that have both "popularity" and "strength" from the key projects constructed by central enterprises in 2025, and launched an online liking activity, attracting over 850,000 netizens to participate. Based on the likes from netizens and expert opinions, the results of the "Top Ten Super Projects of Central Enterprises in 2025" were announced.

The Longdong-Shandong ±800 KV UHV DC project has been completed and put into operation. This project serves as the main energy artery for China's "West-East Electricity Transmission" initiative. It starts from the Qingyang Converter Station in Qingyang City, Gansu Province, and ends at the Dongping Converter Station in Tai'an City, Shandong Province. Utilizing ±800 KV rated voltage and 8 million KW rated capacity (referred to as "Double Eight Hundred") UHV DC transmission technology, the transmission distance is 915 kilometers, with a total investment of 20.2 billion yuan. It is China's first large-scale integrated energy base for "wind, solar, thermal, and storage integration" for external transmission, the first UHV DC project to be put into operation at full capacity in one go, the first demonstration project to explore and apply the "Double Eight Hundred" UHV DC standardization achievements, and the first demonstration project to apply national special research results to break through the "bottleneck" technology of UHV.

The Longdong-Shandong ±800 kV UHV DC project can annually transmit over 36 billion kWh of electricity from Gansu to the Shandong load center, significantly enhancing Shandong's energy and power supply capacity and providing more vigorous development momentum for Shandong's economic backbone. The project strongly supports the construction of the "Shaghuang" large base and the large-scale development and utilization of new energy, ensuring the reliable delivery of over 10 million kilowatts of new energy installed capacity, promoting the transformation of Gansu's resource advantages and large-scale optimal allocation, and accelerating the establishment of an important new energy base nationwide.
Relying on a series of national major science and technology projects, the project successfully developed and applied the UHV converter transformer tap changer with completely independent intellectual property rights and the DC control and protection system based on self-controllable chips, achieving a new breakthrough in the self-controllability of China's electrical equipment and effectively enhancing the resilience and control of China's high-end power transmission and transformation equipment industry chain and supply chain.Editor/Bian Wenjun
