On June 5, 2026, the construction site of a 420 acre energy storage project in Sarutalagacha, Mandulatu Town, Sunite Left Banner, Inner Mongolia, was bustling with activity. The civil construction has been fully completed, and the booster station and energy storage equipment are gradually entering the site. Workers are busy installing and debugging. This is the new energy storage special action project of Xilingol East Su Substation invested and constructed by Wanbang Digital Energy Co., Ltd., with a total investment of about 3 billion yuan. Two state-owned enterprises, China Electric Power Construction Jiangxi Hydropower Engineering Bureau and China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, jointly undertake the construction general contracting. According to the plan, this power station will be fully completed and put into operation in early August 2026, making it the world's largest single grid type lithium iron phosphate energy storage power station.
Record breaking global single unit scale
The scale of the energy storage power station reaches 1 million kilowatts/4 million kilowatt hours, and after completion, it can discharge about 1 billion kilowatt hours per year.

This discharge capacity is equivalent to a portion of the annual electricity demand of a medium-sized city, and can provide stable, high-quality, and green power guarantee for Sunite Left Banner. The grid structured lithium iron phosphate energy storage technology adopted in the project belongs to the forefront direction of the current electrochemical energy storage field, with characteristics such as fast response speed, high regulation accuracy, and adaptability to complex power grid environments. Compared with conventional energy storage stations, grid construction technology can actively support voltage and frequency stability of the power grid, and is more suitable for the frequency regulation and peak shaving needs of the power grid after large-scale new energy integration. After the project is put into operation, it will significantly optimize the local power grid structure, reduce coal consumption, and lower harmful gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide.
Joint construction by central enterprises drives employment
The project construction period is nearly half a year, continuously releasing employment driving effects. Accumulated employment opportunities of about 270, with an average income increase of about 30000 yuan per person and a salary of about 8 million yuan. By employing a large number of local laborers, covering multiple occupations such as civil construction and equipment handling, local residents can achieve employment and income increase at their doorstep.

At the same time, the project construction directly drives the development of related industries such as logistics transportation, building materials supply, catering and accommodation, further expanding employment opportunities. The two central enterprises have formed a collaborative cooperation in construction organization, safety management, and technical support, ensuring that the project completes all processes from civil engineering to equipment installation within six months, providing reference engineering management experience for the rapid construction of similar large-scale energy storage projects.
