On January 19, 2026, Nanshan Aluminum, a leading enterprise in China's aluminum industry, announced a major announcement that it plans to invest approximately 3.056 billion yuan (equivalent to 437 million US dollars) to build an electrolytic aluminum project with an annual output of 250000 tons on Bintan Island, Indonesia through an overseas subsidiary. This is not only a large-scale expansion of overseas production capacity, but also marks a solid step forward in deepening industrial chain coordination and seizing the ASEAN market in its globalization strategy. The project is located in the resource rich Karambatang Special Economic Zone in Indonesia, aiming to fully utilize the local low-cost alumina resources and build a more competitive overseas production base.

250000 tons of production capacity to be built in two years
According to the announcement, the electrolytic aluminum project will be implemented by PT.HEAI, a project company under Nanshan Aluminum International, with a planned annual production capacity of 250000 tons and an estimated construction period of two years. In the initial stage of the project, the product will be directly supplied to downstream deep processing stages in the form of aluminum hydrate to ensure production efficiency and cost control. The market positioning is clearly focused on overseas markets such as ASEAN and South Asia, while also taking into account the group's own business needs, reflecting the strategic consideration of internal and external linkage. The fundraising will be completed through a combination of self owned funds and bank loans, demonstrating the company's robust financial planning and feasibility of project implementation.
Strengthen global industrial chain collaboration
As the only domestic enterprise that supplies aviation aluminum to the three major aircraft manufacturers, COMAC, Airbus, and Boeing, Nanshan Aluminum has established the world's shortest distance integrated industrial chain from thermoelectric, alumina, electrolytic aluminum to high-end aluminum manufacturing. The Indonesian electrolytic aluminum project is a key extension of its overseas strategy, aimed at forming strong synergy with the company's already established large alumina production capacity in Indonesia. By the end of 2025, Nanshan Aluminum's total alumina production capacity in Indonesia has reached 4 million tons. After the completion of the new electrolytic aluminum project, it will achieve on-site conversion of alumina resources, significantly reduce logistics and production costs, and enhance overall profitability and risk resistance. Targeting the dominant position of ASEAN aluminum industry
This investment is an important component of Nanshan Aluminum's planned million ton electrolytic aluminum production capacity in Indonesia. After the completion of the project, the company's electrolytic aluminum production capacity cluster in Indonesia will reach a scale of 500000 tons. Relying on Indonesia's resource advantages and the company's technology and management experience, this project not only has a strong profit potential with an unexpected internal rate of return and a capital surplus in the first year of production, but also will take the lead in the rapidly growing aluminum consumption market in ASEAN. This move not only consolidates Nanshan Aluminum's competitive advantage as the industry leader, but also lays a solid foundation for further integrating regional resources and shaping a new global aluminum industry pattern.Editor/Gao Xue
