Hainan offshore wind power project successfully connected to the grid
On April 5, 2026, good news came from the Hainan Dongfang Qiyuan offshore wind farm invested and constructed by China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited, with the first batch of wind turbines officially connected to the grid for power generation. This is not only the successful landing of the first offshore wind power project of the National Energy Group in Hainan, but also marks a new breakthrough in the large-scale commercial operation of China's large capacity wind turbines in the South China Sea, injecting strong impetus into the construction of Hainan's clean energy island.

The wind farm is located in the western sea area of Gancheng Town, Dongfang City, Hainan Province, about 12 kilometers offshore, with an average depth of 12 to 26.5 meters and a planned sea area of nearly 27.24 square kilometers. The total installed capacity of the project is 500 megawatts, with a total of 42 wind turbines installed. Among them, large-scale units with a single capacity of up to 14 megawatts have been mass-produced for the first time in the Hainan region, fully demonstrating the trend of China's offshore wind power towards large-scale and high-end development. To ensure the collection and transmission of electricity, the project has simultaneously constructed a 220 kV offshore boosting station and an onshore centralized control center.
Annual power generation exceeding 1.5 billion kilowatt hours with significant benefits
According to calculations, once fully operational, this wind farm can deliver over 1.5 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity to the Hainan power grid annually, meeting the annual electricity needs of approximately 1.2 million households. In terms of environmental protection, it can save about 467000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.271 million tons annually, which is of great significance for optimizing Hainan's energy structure and supporting the implementation of the "dual carbon" strategy in Hainan Free Trade Port.
Offshore wind power is a key support for China to build a new energy system, achieve the "dual carbon" goal, and build a maritime power. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, China has clearly proposed to vigorously build offshore wind power bases, promote deep and offshore development, and achieve a cumulative grid connected installed capacity target of over 100 million kilowatts. The industry is fully entering the fast lane of high-quality development. Keywords: offshore wind power, Hainan Free Trade Port, grid connected power generation

As a pioneer in domestic wind power development, National Energy Group Longyuan Power continues to lead in cutting-edge fields such as offshore wind power. By the end of 2025, the company's controlled renewable energy installed capacity reached 45.99 million kilowatts. Entering the 15th Five Year Plan, Longyuan Power regards offshore wind power as its core strategy, and recently won a 2 million kilowatt project at the CZ16 site in Hainan. Multiple offshore wind power projects in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu and other areas have been included in the key plan. A series of solid layouts will help it achieve a wonderful start to the 15th Five Year Plan.Editor/Gong Ziwei
