On May 6, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with visiting Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalil in Beijing.

Wang Yi stated that China and Bangladesh are good neighbors and partners, always adhering to mutual respect, equal treatment, and win-win cooperation. Bilateral relations have been tested by international changes and have become increasingly mature and stable. China respects the independence, sovereignty, and national dignity of Bangladesh, respects the development path and political system chosen by the Bangladeshi people, and supports Bangladesh in pursuing an independent foreign policy. The Chinese side supports the new government of Bangladesh in maintaining unity and stability, revitalizing and developing the economy, and improving people's livelihoods, and is willing to continue to provide support and assistance to Bangladesh to the best of its ability. China is willing to continue its traditional friendship with Bangladesh, enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and become the most reliable partner in the development process of Bangladesh.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is willing to promote the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" initiative to align with Bangladesh's national development strategy, deepen cooperation in traditional fields such as economy and trade, investment, infrastructure, water conservancy, people to people and cultural exchanges, expand cooperation in emerging industries such as green development and digital economy, and support competent Chinese enterprises to invest and start business in Bangladesh. The development of relations between China and South Asian countries such as Bangladesh is not targeted towards any third party, nor should it be influenced by any third party. China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with Bangladesh in multilateral institutions and regional cooperation frameworks, and jointly contribute to world and regional peace and development.

Kalil stated that the traditional friendship between Bangladesh and China has always been that China is a trustworthy and indispensable friend and partner of Bangladesh. The Meng Xin government attaches great importance to its relations with China, firmly stands with China on Taiwan related issues, adheres to the One China principle, and resolutely defends the authority of UN Resolution 2758. It believes that the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory. It supports China in achieving national reunification. The Bangladeshi side appreciates the long-term support and assistance provided by the Chinese side, and looks forward to further deepening all-round friendship and cooperation, elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new height, and assisting its own economic and social development. Welcome Chinese enterprises to invest in Bangladesh, and we are willing to provide a stable, favorable, and predictable business environment.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. After the meeting, both sides also issued a joint press release.Editor/Gong Ziwei
