From the vast coal base in eastern Mongolia to the frontline operations at Liaoning ports, from the constant flow of freight fleets to the large ships sailing across the blue sea, a north-south, efficient and coordinated energy logistics artery is continuously activated and steadily running.

On May 18, 2026, Liaogang Group's Dalian Port Bulk Cargo Terminal successfully completed the unloading task of coal trains departing from Huolinhe, marking the official operation of the Mengdong Coal Transfer Project in Dalian Bay Port Area. At this point, Liaogang Group has achieved a comprehensive layout, and the four major ports of Dalian, Yingkou, Panjin, and Dandong have fully opened up coal shipping services in eastern Mongolia. The business has been fully launched for less than a month and has achieved impressive results with a coal port volume of 1.5 million tons in eastern Mongolia and a loading volume of 500000 tons.

Collaborative linkage connects the energy artery

The eastern region of Mongolia has abundant reserves of brown coal resources, and with its outstanding cost advantage, it has become an important energy guarantee for major power enterprises in the south. However, for a long time, the problem of a single external transportation channel and high logistics costs has hindered the transformation of local resource advantages into economic development advantages. Relying on its unique port resources and perfect service system, Liaogang Group closely follows the national "North Coal South Transportation" strategic deployment and regional development needs, and collaborates with multiple units to create a new logistics channel for the entry of the Mongolian East Coal Railway into the port and the southward sea transportation. By integrating logistics resources along the route through an integrated operation model, seamless connection between railway and sea transportation can be achieved, effectively reducing transportation time and overall logistics costs. This enables high-quality coal from eastern Mongolia to be transported more efficiently and at a lower cost to the southern market, fully unleashing the potential of coal production areas and laying a stable foundation for energy supply in the southern region.

In April 2026, Panjin Port was the first to implement the coal gathering operation in eastern Mongolia, followed by Yingkou Port and Dandong Port. The coal shipping business in eastern Mongolia was fully launched in all ports in Liaoning. Relying on the multi-point layout of Liaoning coastal ports, four railway sea intermodal transportation channels connect the main coal producing areas in eastern Mongolia with the consumer markets along the southeast coast, completely breaking through the bottleneck of coal transportation logistics in eastern Mongolia and becoming a crucial transportation channel in the domestic north-south coal transportation system.

Efficient operation achieves simultaneous increase in quantity and efficiency

Relying on the new energy logistics channel of Liaogang Port, tens of thousands of tons of Mengdong lignite are loaded onto ships from the port and transported southward to various places every day. The peak daily train loading and unloading in the port area can reach 20 trains. At present, Mengdong coal originates from mining sites such as Hesgewula, and is transported by railway and sea to the southern coastal and riverside cities, accurately matching the coal production needs of power plants in various regions.

Clear transportation flow and smooth logistics chain provide a solid guarantee for the normalization and large-scale operation of North South coal transportation.

As the closest port for land transportation to the coal hinterland in eastern Mongolia, Panjin Port has performed outstandingly in the coal shipping business in eastern Mongolia. Since the first Mengdong coal train arrived at the port, the daily unloading capacity of the port area has increased from the initial 3 trains to 9 trains, with an average daily coal unloading volume of over 30000 tons, breaking the record for the highest daily coal unloading volume in the port area since its establishment.

The three major port areas of Yingkou, Dandong, and Dalian rely on mature operational systems and stable customer resources to efficiently promote business implementation simultaneously. Each port area, based on its own storage capacity and environmental control requirements, strengthens coordination and scientific allocation of operational resources to ensure the smooth, orderly, and efficient operation of the coal business in eastern Mongolia. Customers can independently choose ports based on logistics costs, transportation efficiency, and other needs, forming a market-oriented and efficient resource allocation pattern.

Multiple efforts to expand sea land connectivity

The significant improvement in business scale and operational efficiency is the result of multi-party collaboration and full process business optimization.

Around the coal shipping business in eastern Mongolia, the business department of Liaogang Co., Ltd. collaborates with the freight department of Shenyang Railway Bureau and the logistics center of Tongliao Railway, with the core of reducing customers' comprehensive logistics costs. We implement a differentiated operation model of one port, one policy, and balance the transfer volume of goods in each port area through market-oriented price adjustment methods to ensure the overall smooth operation of the business. At the same time, we will collaborate with Changhang Freight to establish a new gateway for the export of coal from eastern Mongolia, and build an efficient and smooth energy transportation backbone network. At the level of expanding the source of goods, Liaogang Group's business department, in conjunction with the Mongolian East Customer Service Center, has coordinated the layout, actively conducted research and promotion in major mining areas in eastern Mongolia, and actively connected with downstream trading enterprises and major power plants to continuously expand terminal sales channels.

Through the collaborative efforts of railways, ports, shipping, mining areas, trade, and power plants, the Mongolian Coal Port Trade Platform has been successfully established. It has now formed diversified trade models such as direct supply from mining areas, port receiving, and dock leveling, and the activity of pre port transactions continues to rise. Tailored exclusive logistics solutions for customers of different trade types in the port area, striving to create a golden coal water transportation channel that connects the ports of eastern Mongolia and Russia Mongolia, radiating to the southern coast.Editor/Gong Ziwei
