On May 21, 2026, during the 8th China Western International Investment and Trade Fair, a promotion conference for high-quality development of modern logistics services and modern industries was held. At the meeting, the latest results of the Western Land Sea New Corridor Development Index - "2025 Western Land Sea New Corridor Development Index Report" were presented.

The index has been continuously climbing for six years

According to the Development Index data, the development index of the Western Land Sea New Corridor will reach 202.6 points in 2025, breaking through the 200 point mark for the first time and increasing by 5.4% compared to 2024, steadily growing for six consecutive years. This impressive data fully confirms that under the guidance of national strategy, the effectiveness of the construction of the Western Land Sea New Corridor continues to be highlighted, and the endogenous driving force for high-quality development continues to be consolidated and strengthened.

Yang Guodong, Vice President of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, released the "2025 Western Land Sea New Channel Development Index Report" on site. 2025 is the final year for the overall plan of the Western Land Sea New Corridor to finalize the basic completion target, and it is also the sixth consecutive year for the development index to be released. The index has climbed from 100 points in the base period of 2019 to 202.6 points in 2025, achieving a doubling of the value, and fully and systematically recording the complete construction process of the Western Land Sea New Corridor from framework building, accelerated development to basic completion.

Highlights of Channel Development Highlight

From a specific perspective, this index presents three core development characteristics. One is the rapid growth of the scale index, and the continuous release of channel network effects. The scale development index for 2025 is 227.9 points, with a year-on-year increase of 20.3%, making it the fastest-growing indicator among the three dimensions. The logistics scale index climbed to 567.7 points, with a cumulative growth rate of 467.7% over six years, becoming the core driving force behind the overall channel index increase. Secondly, the quality index has been steadily increasing, and the development quality has achieved structural optimization. The Quality Development Index for 2025 is 155.0 points, a year-on-year increase of 2.0%. The intensification index has risen rapidly for two consecutive years, with a single year increase of 15.3%. Core indicators such as port openness and trade dependence have been optimized simultaneously, indicating that channel development has officially entered a new stage of quality improvement from the stage of volume accumulation. At the same time, the ASEAN Economic and Trade Scale Index has reached 172.5 points. With the support of the RCEP framework, China ASEAN regional trade cooperation continues to deepen, and the role of the Western Land Sea New Corridor as a key link for economic and trade exchanges between the two sides has become increasingly prominent. Thirdly, the competitiveness index is running at a high level, and the core advantages of ports and ports continue to consolidate. By 2025, the competitiveness index will reach 241.1 points, maintaining a high overall level. The port competitiveness index is 299.9 points, with a six-year growth of 199.9%. The container routes of Beibu Gulf Port have expanded from 52 to 100, and the strategic position of the international gateway port has been officially established. The port competitiveness index reached 376.7 points, with a six-year increase of 276.7%, making it the sub item with the largest increase in competitiveness. At present, there are 1561 A-level logistics enterprises and 84 5A level logistics enterprises in the region. The service capability index has increased by 92.5% in six years, and the comprehensive level of logistics market entities continues to improve. The current development of channel competitiveness is gradually shifting from hardware facility expansion to institutional innovation and digital upgrading, and the benign development pattern of channel+economy and trade+industry has basically taken shape. The future development prospects are promising

The person in charge of the Port Logistics Office of the Chongqing Municipal Government stated that with the opening of the Pinglu Canal in 2026 and the completion and operation of the Huangbai Railway in 2028, the adaptability of the channel infrastructure and logistics operation scale will be further improved, and it is expected that the total development index of the channel will exceed 300 points. Next, relevant departments will explore the establishment of a quarterly monitoring mechanism for indices and a special index matrix, promoting the upgrading of indices from annual regular releases to regular dynamic monitoring, providing scientific and accurate decision-making support for achieving high-quality operation and development goals of the Western Land Sea New Corridor during the 15th Five Year Plan period.Editor/Gong Ziwei
