On May 19, 2026, Zhong Jie, a public counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, and Pazhandala, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, jointly signed an implementation agreement for the northern section of the National Road Water Damage Restoration Project in Cambodia.

Zhong Jie said that China is willing to work with Cambodia to carefully organize the implementation of the project, continue to deepen the docking between the the Belt and Road Initiative and the "Five Corners Strategy", and promote the hard connectivity of infrastructure construction, the soft connectivity of rules and standards, and the connectivity of people's hearts, so that China Cambodia cooperation can better benefit the two peoples.

Pazhandala stated that the northern section of the 7th National Road Water Damage Restoration Project in Cambodia is one of the landmark projects of the Chinese government's aid to Cambodia. It is now a transportation hub connecting the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and the northeastern region, and linking Cambodia with Laos and Vietnam. I believe that after the restoration, the traffic conditions along the entire highway will be comprehensively upgraded, injecting stronger impetus into Cambodia's economic development and connectivity.

The northern section of the National Road Water Damage Repair Project No. 7 in Cambodia is organized, implemented, and supervised by the International Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce. The main content is to repair approximately 96.63 kilometers of roads, treat some bridges, culverts, and road surface diseases, and supplement and improve traffic safety facilities. After completion, the project will be connected to the repaired southern section of the road, further enhancing the overall traffic capacity of Cambodia's National Road No. 7 and promoting regional economic development and connectivity in Cambodia.Editor/Cheng Liting
