On May 28, 2026, Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Communications Construction Corporation, made a statement on the construction of the second phase of the Inner Mongolia Railway. At this time, on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the opening of the Mombasa Nairobi Railway, as a key project for the westward extension of the line, the second phase of the Nairobi Malaba Railway officially broke ground in Kenya in March of the same year. A steel dragon running through the hinterland of East Africa from Mombasa Port to Lake Victoria is reshaping the economic geography of the region.

Connect inland logistics channels

The second phase of the Neyma Railway project starts from Naivasha and ends at Kisumu, connecting to the Victoria Lake Port area.

This project is regarded as the finishing touch to improve the framework of the East African railway network. After the full line is connected, it will significantly improve the transportation efficiency between Mombasa Port and inland areas, greatly reducing regional logistics costs and time losses.

This not only strengthens Kenya's position as a logistics gateway in East Africa, but also provides convenient sea routes for landlocked countries such as Uganda, directly activating the industrial layout and economic corridor construction along the route.

Upgrade the engineering contracting model

Compared to previous construction projects, China Communications Construction Corporation has achieved a dual upgrade in both capability and mode in this project. Enterprises are no longer limited to traditional engineering contracting, but have transformed into providers of systematic solutions. Technologically, building information modeling and smart construction site systems are widely used to address complex geological challenges; In terms of management, leveraging the advantages of the entire industry chain to implement full lifecycle collaboration.

This intensive management not only improves the economic efficiency of the project, but also ensures a high degree of unity between engineering quality and sustainable development. Keywords: Social commentary, news and information, East African railway

Deepen the integration and development of local areas

Infrastructure construction is not only about physical connectivity, but also about the integration of people's hearts and technology. China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC) vigorously promotes the localization development strategy in project construction, establishes an order based talent training mechanism through cooperation with local universities, and systematically transfers railway construction and operation and maintenance technology.

This model not only creates a large number of job opportunities for the local area, but also enhances the independent development capabilities of East African countries through technological empowerment, and practices the cooperative concept of consultation, co construction, and sharing through practical actions.Editor/Gao Xue
