Recently, Guangzhou Metro has reached a deep strategic cooperation agreement with Vietnamese railway companies, further expanding China's rail transit network overseas.
Strategic cooperation successfully signed and landed
On June 1, 2026, Guangzhou Metro Group and VNR officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Hanoi, focusing on in-depth cooperation in multiple fields such as electrified railways, urban rail operation and development, and professional talent training. This signing was successfully implemented based on the opportunity of the Guangzhou Municipal Government delegation's visit to Vietnam for exchange.

Since 2025, Guangzhou Metro has successfully won the bid for the projects related to Line 2 and Line 4 of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro in Vietnam. We have been fully involved in the pre project research and planning, scheme design, and engineering consulting services, continuously promoting the large-scale application of Chinese subway technology and standards overseas.
Grand planning with broad prospects for rail transit
Deng Shimeng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Railway Corporation, gave a detailed introduction to the development plans of rail transit in the two core cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. According to the plan, by 2035, Hanoi will add 7 new rail transit lines with a total length of 397.8 kilometers, which can carry 35% to 40% of the local public passenger transport capacity; After 2035, 5 new lines will be built and 4 existing lines will be extended. During the same period, Ho Chi Minh City plans to build 6 rail transit lines with a total length of 183 kilometers by 2035, undertaking 30% to 40% of the public transportation passenger volume. In the future, 4 new lines will be added and 5 existing lines will be extended, expanding the mileage by about 327 kilometers. The development space of urban rail transit is huge.
Expand cooperation areas through multi-point layout
At present, the Guangzhou Metro consortium is partnering with Vietnam Railway Corporation to compete for the operation service project of the Fuguo Island light rail in Vietnam. In the future, it will actively participate in key projects such as the Baobang Gaimei railway, and promote cooperation in rail transit talent cultivation and technical training. Previously, Vietnam Railway Corporation and China Railway 16th Bureau successfully won the bid for the track project of the Fuguo Island light rail project, and CRRC Dalian also won the supply order for 14 sets of 3-car trains, gradually forming a multi-party cooperation pattern among multiple countries.

Deng Shimeng stated that at present, Vietnam's railway development focuses on two core strategic tasks: firstly, to ensure the safety, efficiency, and stable operation of the existing national railway network; The second is to advance the preparation work for the construction of new railways, urban rail transit, and high-speed rail projects, and undertake the operation and management of new mainline railways and high-speed rail after being authorized by the state, fully promoting the modernization and upgrading of the railway industry, and enhancing the independent development capability of local rail transit.
