On June 2, 2026, China and the UK held their 11th Strategic Dialogue in Beijing. The two sides held in-depth consultations on key issues such as bilateral relations, pragmatic cooperation, and global governance, gathered consensus on development, and laid a solid foundation for friendly cooperation between China and the UK in the new era.

Consolidate the foundation of cooperation

On June 2, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, co chaired the 11th China UK Strategic Dialogue with British Foreign Secretary Cooper in Beijing. Wang Yi pointed out that Prime Minister Stamer's successful visit to China in early 2026 led to important consensus between the leaders of the two countries on building a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the UK. This new positioning is in line with the development process of China UK relations, conforms to the actual development of both countries, and outlines a long-term win-win development prospect for both sides. At present, the exchange and cooperation between China and the UK in various fields are steadily recovering and returning to the right track. This good development situation is worth cherishing by both sides. Both sides need to continue to deepen communication and coordination, implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, adhere to the positioning of a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership, closely engage in high-level interactions, achieve more practical cooperation results, rely on China UK cooperation to promote world peace, stability, and prosperity, and inject stabilizing forces into the complex and ever-changing international situation.

Digging into the Potential for Collaboration

Wang Yi emphasized that China's more than 40 years of reform and opening up have fully proved that openness is the driving force for development and progress, and closed conservatism will only lead to lagging development. Currently, China has always adhered to the concept of high-quality development and continued to promote high-level opening up to the outside world. China's 15th Five Year Plan is not only a blueprint for its own development, but also an opportunity for global cooperation, which is highly compatible with the UK's modern industrial development strategy. Both sides can seize development opportunities, empower each other in both directions, and achieve mutual benefit and progress. China hopes that the UK can create a fair, just, and non discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises, scientifically delineate the boundaries of safe development, and create a high-quality environment for upgrading and deepening all-round cooperation in China UK relations.

Sharing the responsibility of a great power

Wang Yi stated that the current international situation is complex and ever-changing, with various unilateral actions resurfacing. The world is experiencing the most profound changes and turbulence since the end of the Cold War. Both China and the UK are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, shouldering the important mission of promoting global development and maintaining world stability. Both countries should adhere to the right path, uphold fairness and justice, defend the victory of World War II, strictly abide by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, practice true multilateralism, and work together to promote the development of the global governance system towards a more fair and reasonable direction. At the same time, Wang Yi clearly stated China's firm stance on core issues such as Taiwan and Hong Kong. Keywords: bilateral cooperation, international relations

Cooper responded by stating that the positioning of the China UK long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership established during Prime Minister Stamer's visit to China in January 2026 is in line with the core interests of both countries and has significant practical significance. The current international environment is turbulent and complex. As permanent members of the Security Council, China and the UK urgently need to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, and work together to address various global challenges. The UK will closely follow the development direction determined by the leaders of the two countries, deepen high-level exchanges, improve the normalized dialogue mechanism, and expand practical cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, finance, energy, artificial intelligence, and climate governance.   During the talks, China and the UK also exchanged views and communicated their positions on international hot topics such as Iran and Ukraine.Editor/Gong Ziwei
