In June 2026, Vietnam Railway Corporation and Guangzhou Metro signed a railway strategic cooperation agreement, making this project a representative landing project for China Vietnam infrastructure interconnection. Vietnam has opened up its authority to cooperate in the construction and operation of conventional railways, intercity electrified railways, and large and medium-sized urban rail transit. A large number of infrastructure projects have been tendered to the outside world, and domestic rail transit, engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, and logistics industry enterprises have ushered in a good opportunity for overseas development.
Core cooperation landing
In terms of mainline railways, the Chinese side has completed the feasibility study report for the Laojie to Hanoi to Haiphong railway. The two lines from Tongdeng to Hanoi and from Mangjie to Haiphong via Halong have been handed over to the Chinese side for planning and design. Several cross-border railways are key backbone lines connecting China and Vietnam and linking the Asia Europe logistics corridor.

In the field of urban rail transit, Vietnam plans to construct nearly 7000 kilometers of railways; Hanoi plans to build 7 new rail transit lines by 2035, and Ho Chi Minh City plans to add 6 new lines. In the future, there will be continuous expansion of line construction, and all related projects will be open to Chinese cooperation in construction and operation. The benchmark project is progressing in an orderly manner, and the Fuguo Island light rail project has started cooperation research and bidding work. The Bau Bang Kai Mep railway line is simultaneously negotiating cooperation details, making it the preferred project for domestic enterprises to explore the Vietnamese market.
Clarify the three major cooperation needs
At the engineering construction level, Vietnam invites China to participate in the general contracting and engineering construction of urban rail and electrified railways. In terms of technology introduction, Vietnam plans to introduce electrified railway operation and maintenance technology with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour or less, smart railway supporting systems, and practical experience related to TOD comprehensive development. In the talent consulting sector, Vietnam organized a professional team to study railway operation management in China on site, and simultaneously opened up project full process consulting and customized talent training cooperation.
