Recently, Singaporean energy officials affirmed the crucial role of Chinese companies in Southeast Asia's green transformation during an interview. Relying on the advantages of a complete industrial chain, a large number of Chinese energy projects have landed in multiple ASEAN countries, and cross-border practical cooperation has steadily landed, continuously promoting the implementation of the regional green power interconnection blueprint.

Deeply cultivate clean energy projects

Southeast Asia has abundant reserves of wind, solar and water energy, but the development and utilization rate has been low for a long time. In April 2026, the China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) North Laos Million Kilowatt Photovoltaic Project was successfully put into operation, achieving an average annual power generation of 1.65 billion kilowatt hours through exclusive mountain construction technology, promoting the local shift from single hydropower to water solar complementarity.

Dongfang Electric undertakes the construction of a floating photovoltaic power station in Thailand, which is equipped with an energy storage system to achieve all-weather power supply; The Huaneng Sanghe II Hydropower Station has landed in Cambodia, relying on the peak shaving capacity of the units to stabilize the fluctuations of new energy. The Malaysia Cross Sea Power Transmission Project has been put into operation, and innovative unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) wiring technology has solved the problem of electricity consumption on islands. Multiple benchmark projects have solidified the foundation of ASEAN's local green power supply. According to industry evaluations in Singapore, China has maintained a leading position globally in the entire new energy industry chain.

Refining cross-border operational strength

According to data from multiple overseas think tanks, China has become the primary source of investment in the renewable energy sector in Southeast Asia. In the process of project cooperation, Chinese enterprises extend from equipment output to full process development and operation, covering the entire chain of investment and financing, construction, and operation and maintenance, helping partner countries improve the supporting facilities of the new energy industry.

For Chinese enterprises, the vast ASEAN market continues to polish their international project control level, accelerating their global industrial chain layout and value chain upgrading; ASEAN countries are leveraging foreign capital and mature technology to accelerate the cultivation of local low-carbon industries, achieving complementary resources and collaborative income growth between the two parties.

Promote ASEAN energy integration

ASEAN countries have been planning to unify the regional power grid for many years. In 2025, member countries will sign a new version of the memorandum of understanding on electricity cooperation, which will be refined to the implementation path of global interconnection by 2045. At present, more than ten cross-border transmission lines have been built between China and ASEAN, and the annual green electricity mutual aid scale in the Lancang Mekong region exceeds 75 billion kilowatt hours. Clean electricity from countries with surplus hydropower is transmitted to industrial power concentration areas nearby, effectively reducing the cost of energy consumption for regional production. Power interconnection strengthens the foundation of manufacturing development, helps ASEAN accelerate the green upgrading of its industrial chain, and continues to promote the transformation of ASEAN's power grid planning from a paper concept to a tangible result.
