At the eastern end of the Mediterranean Corridor, an 83 kilometer railway is waiting to be rewritten. Croatian railway infrastructure company H Ž Infrastruktura has selected India's Afcons Infrastructure as the preferred bidder to implement the largest railway project in the country's history - the comprehensive upgrade and reconstruction of the Dugo Selo Novska line, including the laying of a second track.

Indian contractor wins largest order in history

The € 677.05 million bidding proposal put forward by Afcons has been recognized by H Ž Infrastructure as the most economically advantageous offer. After the contract is signed, the project is expected to be completed in five years and ten months. For Afcons, this is a significant breakthrough in the European market. This Indian infrastructure giant has completed multiple large-scale projects in the Middle East and Africa in recent years. This winning bid further expands its presence in the international railway construction field and marks the continued rise of Indian contractors' competitiveness in the European infrastructure market.

Dual line acceleration, connected to the European road network

The maximum speed of the upgraded Dugo Selo Novska line will be increased from the current level to 160 kilometers per hour, and the existing track will be fully reconstructed with the addition of a parallel track to achieve dual track operation. The project also includes station reconstruction, elimination of most level crossings, installation of noise barriers, and deployment of a new signal and traction power supply system. This route is part of the cross European transportation network Mediterranean Corridor and is receiving joint funding from the European Union. Its strategic significance extends beyond the Croatian border and directly serves the freight corridor between Central Europe and Adriatic ports. When this 83 kilometer double track railway is completed and opened to traffic, Croatia will have a truly modern mainline, and the north-south railway corridor in the Balkans will become more accessible as a result.Editor/Cheng Liting
