On June 3, 2026, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bektinov presided over a special board meeting. On the conference table is a latest progress report on the Almaty Super Ski Resort. Official confirmation: The project has completed all preliminary preparations and officially entered the construction and implementation phase. This international standard mountain skiing resort has gathered professional engineering teams from France, Canada, the United States and other countries, and is expected to be put into operation in December 2028. For the Central Asian region, this is not only the first truly high-end ice and snow complex, but also a concentrated demonstration of infrastructure construction capabilities.

Multi country team division of labor and collaboration

According to the results of the public bidding, the project has established a clear international division of labor and construction system.

POMA, a French company, is responsible for the construction of 11 cable car systems, including 3S cable cars, 10 seat box type cable cars, and various ski lift facilities. Canadian StructureCraft company undertakes the design and manufacturing of timber structures. Hill International is fully responsible for construction preparation and comprehensive project management in the United States. The overall architectural scheme follows Foster+Partners' overall design standards. Kazakhstan has explicitly required strict control over design quality, construction safety, and environmental standards throughout the entire process to ensure the level of international construction. This model of multi country professional team division of labor and collaboration is the first of its kind in large-scale infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan.

There is a huge gap in the high-end ice and snow market

Kazakhstan continues to promote the development of the Almaty mountain cluster, focusing on the ice and snow tourism industry, hoping to create a regional characteristic economic growth pole.

However, the current high-end standardized ski resort facilities in Central Asia are severely scarce, making it difficult to match international cultural and tourism consumption demands with regional tourism upgrading plans. Most of the existing ski resorts were built earlier, with insufficient cableway capacity and rudimentary supporting service facilities, which cannot attract international skiing enthusiasts and high-end consumer groups. The emergence of the Almaty Super Ski Resort project is precisely to fill this gap. After completion, the project will become a core benchmark project for upgrading Kazakhstan's mountainous cultural and tourism cluster, enhancing Almaty's international cultural and tourism competitiveness, and driving regional employment and economic growth.

Benchmarking international reshaping of cultural and tourism business card

This project comprehensively benchmarks the international top-level ski resort construction standards. From the capacity configuration of the cableway system to the design aesthetics of wooden structures, from the professionalization of construction management to the strict implementation of environmental standards, every aspect is in line with the mature ski resorts in the Alps. Keywords: the Belt and Road News Network, Central Asia Ice and Snow Infrastructure

After the project is put into operation, a modern and standardized mountain tourism infrastructure system will be built, reshaping Almaty's ice and snow tourism business card. Relying on precise international construction positioning and strict construction control system, the project will effectively activate the regional cultural and tourism consumption potential, help Kazakhstan expand its industrial track based on the ice and snow economy, and consolidate its position as a cultural and tourism hub in Central Asia. It is expected that after being put into operation in December 2028, this super ski resort will become an important node connecting the Eurasian ice and snow tourism market.Editor/Gao Xue
