Three years ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping issued a general mobilization order to win the battle of the Three North Project, aiming to build an unbreakable ecological security barrier on the 4.486 million square kilometers of land spanning Northeast, North, and Northwest China. Three years later, this largest ecological project in Chinese history has delivered a hard answer.

The three major battles are advancing along the entire line

The central government has allocated a total investment of 88.9 billion yuan, implemented 544 key projects, and comprehensively launched the battle against the Yellow River bend, the annihilation of the two major sandy areas of Horqin and Hunshandak, and the blockade of the Hexi Corridor Taklamakan Desert edge. In Zhenglanqi, the Beidou Navigation Planting Integrated Machine is accelerating to fix the last 119500 acres of mobile sandy land; In Minqin, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Gansu have joined forces to seal the sand control gap at the border of the two provinces, preventing the convergence of the Badain Jaran and Tengger deserts. Each region breaks the administrative division of joint defense and governance, and no longer fights alone.

In the past three years, the engineering area has been greening at a rate of about 2000 square kilometers per year, with a forest and grass coverage rate of 40.76%. The rate of desertification control has reached 67.82%, and 244 million acres of land have been completed. The eastern part of the area is experiencing a significant acceleration in the inflow of green sediment, while the inflow of yellow sediment in the central part has decreased significantly. The diffusion of sand sources in the western part has been effectively controlled.

China's plan to go global

18 technological highlands have been built nationwide, and new equipment such as grass grid laying machinery and sand control robots have increased sand control efficiency by more than three times. The Three North Intelligent Sand Model has also entered the debugging stage, and sand prevention and control are now equipped with intelligent brains. Recently, students from more than ten countries and regions gathered in Ningxia to learn about China's experience in desertification control. Keywords: environmental governance, Three North Project

According to the 15th Five Year Plan, by 2030, the forest and grass coverage rate in the Three North Engineering Area will reach 40.9%, and the comprehensive vegetation coverage of desertified land will reach 22%. This green Great Wall spanning northern China is advancing inch by inch towards the desert.Editor/Cheng Liting
