Relying on the geographical advantages across Eurasia, Kazakhstan continues to deepen the construction of land transportation and solve the problem of limited inland circulation in Central Asia. This year, the country ushered in a critical period of infrastructure construction, focusing on the upgrading of international traffic corridors and the improvement of local road networks, and the centralized promotion of large-scale highway reconstruction and expansion and new construction projects. From the promotion of cross-border trunk lines to the repair of regional road networks, a series of hard-core projects have been implemented on the ground, which not only makes up for the shortcomings of domestic transportation, but also opens up the Eurasian economic and trade land fast channel and injects new impetus into regional connectivity.

The road network is centralized and renewed

Kazakhstan will start the modernization of large-scale transportation infrastructure in 2026. The country 's more than 11,000 kilometers of highways will be included in the overhaul, medium repair and reconstruction and expansion plans, and road network reconstruction at all levels will be fully rolled out. In addition to the construction of main highways, local and district highway repairs, new bridges, road supporting facilities and other ancillary projects are promoted simultaneously, and the domestic traffic conditions are optimized in an all-round way.

The 216-kilometre road from Kizil Orda to Jez Kazigan was completed by the end of 2025. This year, the country will make every effort to complete the construction and put into use of the section from Uletau to Kizil Olda, so as to realize the full connection of the road network, further open up the internal traffic context of the region, and improve the efficiency of land traffic.

Key projects successfully landed

A number of key highway projects with high investment and long mileage are included in the annual construction list, and the construction rhythm is steadily advancing. The Karaganda-Jezkazgan highway is the core key project, with a total length of 575 kilometers and a project budget of 524 billion tenge. It is planned to officially start construction at the end of this month in 2026. It is expected to complete all construction tasks within two years to ensure that the project quality and construction efficiency meet the two-way standards.

At the same time, the road project from Beiniu to Seksavul was prepared in an orderly manner. The total length of the route is 765 kilometers, with a total investment of 725 billion tenge. It is a key project for Kazakhstan to improve the northern road network and connect the regional economic belt. In addition, the reconstruction project of the border road from Zanauzin to Turkmenistan continued to advance, and the construction of cross-border road network was steadily promoted.

Corridor energy level jumps

As the core land channel connecting Europe and Asia, the transformation and upgrading of the Western Europe-Western China International Transport Corridor ushered in a key breakthrough. This year, Kazakhstan will start the reconstruction of the section from Aktobe to Kyzyl-Orda, upgrade the original secondary highway to the first-class highway, and greatly improve the traffic capacity and speed of the section. The corridor is an important docking carrier between the Silk Road Economic Belt and Kazakhstan 's Bright Road policy. After upgrading, it can greatly shorten the time of land transportation from Asia-Pacific to Western Europe, reduce the cost of cross-border logistics, change the previous trade pattern of over-reliance on maritime transportation, and help Central Asia transform from an inland locked area to a land hub for Eurasian connectivity, and build an efficient transportation bridge for cross-border trade and regional economic cooperation. Editor / Li Xiaohua
