China's major energy layout has achieved a key breakthrough, with multiple affiliated enterprises of China Energy Engineering Corporation's China Electric Power Engineering successfully winning multiple core sections of the Qingyue DC ultra-high voltage transmission project. This energy artery that runs through nine provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities connects Qinghai's high-quality clean energy base with the electricity core area of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It is one of the first ultra-high voltage channels in China to operate across two major power grid regions. The implementation of the project has solved the two-way problem of new energy consumption in the western region and low-carbon electricity shortage in the eastern region. With its ultra long transmission distance and high proportion of new energy transmission capacity, it has become a key benchmark project supporting the implementation of the dual carbon strategy, injecting strong impetus into the optimization of the national energy structure.

The project has a grand scale
The Qingyue DC project has a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts and will build a new converter station in Qinghai and Guangdong respectively. The transmission line will run through nine provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, with a total transmission distance of about 2511 kilometers. After the project is completed and put into use, it can transmit 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Guangdong every year, of which 24.9 billion kilowatt hours are from new energy, accounting for 69.2%. The project can not only promote the construction of a clean energy industry highland in Qinghai, develop the Shage Desert wind and solar resources on a large scale, but also meet the electricity demand of Guangdong's economic and social green transformation, realizing the complementary advantages of energy resources between the east and the west.

Division of labor among multiple institutions
Multiple design sections of this project are undertaken by multiple institutes under the China Electric Power Engineering Corporation, covering core work such as survey and design of converter stations and planning of the entire line. The Northwest Institute is responsible for the design of the transmission end converter station in Qinghai Hainan Prefecture, while the Guangdong Institute undertakes the related projects of the Guangdong receiving end converter station. The East China Institute, Central South Institute, Southwest Institute, North China Institute, as well as several local institutes in Hunan, Guangxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, etc., undertake the design work of multiple transmission lines in Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, etc., with precise connection between each section, covering the entire transmission line. Keywords: Qingyue DC, ultra-high voltage transmission, clean energy

Complex construction conditions
The terrain and landforms along the entire transmission line are complex and diverse, making the construction design extremely difficult. Some sections of the road have an altitude span between 500 meters and 3500 meters, with significant differences in elevation. The entire Chongqing section is mountainous terrain with dense forest distribution, requiring active avoidance of multiple nature reserves and forest parks. The connecting roads between Hunan Guangxi, Gansu Qinghai, Hunan Guangdong and other provinces have rugged terrain and high ecological protection requirements. Each design institute customizes exclusive design schemes based on the local terrain, ecology, and geological conditions, fully ensuring the safety, efficiency, and green promotion of the project.Editor/Li Xiaohua
