Recently, the strong winds in the Gulf of Suez are transforming into tangible electrical currents. The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has awarded a key contract worth over 3 billion Egyptian pounds to a consortium of local companies Korra Energi and Hidelco. This is not only a physical transmission line, but also an energy artery connecting desert wind energy with the national power grid, marking a solid step forward for Egypt in promoting energy structure transformation.

Double enterprises join forces to win large orders

According to the agreement, the two companies will be responsible for constructing two key sections of the Suez Bay wind power grid connection project.

Among them, the first section involves a 45 kilometer long 500 kV ultra-high voltage overhead line, while the third section covers 52 kilometers. This is a major deal worth approximately $58 million and Korra Energi's first major contract since its successful listing on the Egyptian Stock Exchange earlier this month, injecting strong momentum into its capital market performance.

Billion dollar project supports transformation

This award is part of Egypt's larger scale power grid upgrade plan. The estimated investment for the entire transmission scheme is as high as 12 billion to 14 billion Egyptian pounds, divided into eight sections.

The project aims to significantly improve the infrastructure level of State Grid Corporation of China and solve the long-standing problem of wind and solar power curtailment caused by weak power grids. With the completion of this 500 kV artery, Egypt will have the ability to receive more clean electricity from the Red Sea coast.

Two gigawatts of green electricity connected to the grid

The direct mission of this line is to closely connect the newly built wind farms in the Gulf of Suez region with the national main grid. Keywords: New energy news and information, wind power infrastructure

After the completion of the project, it is expected to facilitate the smooth integration of over 2 gigawatts of renewable energy installed capacity into the grid, which is equivalent to adding the output of a super large power station to Egypt. For Egypt, which is committed to increasing the proportion of clean energy, this line is a core guarantee to ensure that green electricity can be delivered and used in the future.Editor/Gao Xue
