Desert wind rises, green electricity is reborn. On the vast Gobi Desert of Saudi Arabia, a large wind power base built by a Chinese company quietly shines with vitality. Countless wind turbines stand facing the wind and operate steadily, relying on China's advanced new energy technology to deliver a continuous stream of clean electricity to the Middle East, writing a new chapter in green cooperation between China and foreign countries.

Recently, significant progress has been made in the Saudi Arabian Algat 600MW wind power EPC project undertaken by Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company. All 80 wind turbines of the project have been successfully connected to the grid for power generation, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent 168 hour full load reliable trial operation.

Significant green benefits of the project

The wind power project is located in Saudi Arabia, with a total installed capacity of 600MW and equipped with 80 domestically produced 7.7MW wind turbines from China. It is currently the leading single unit capacity key wind power project in Saudi Arabia. After the project is officially put into operation, it can provide stable and clean electricity to hundreds of thousands of local households, effectively reducing the region's dependence on long-distance power transmission. According to estimates, the project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1 million tons per year, and its ecological and environmental benefits are equivalent to planting nearly 50 million green plants.

The project will complete all wind turbine hoisting operations on June 2, 2026. Afterwards, the project team efficiently promoted various tasks such as electrical equipment installation, system debugging, and pre grid preparation. In just 8 days, the entire wind turbine was connected to the grid for power generation, once again refreshing the construction and delivery efficiency of overseas large-scale wind power bases.

Assist the wind power industry in going global

This full capacity grid connection is another landmark node of the project after the power transmission from the booster station, the first wind turbine grid connection, and the completion of the entire wind turbine hoisting. This fully demonstrates the excellent technical strength and efficient performance level of Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Company in the field of overseas new energy engineering general contracting, and creates a high-quality demonstration model for China's wind power equipment and wind power technology to go abroad. Relying on the continuous empowerment of the the Belt and Road Initiative, the market influence of Chinese domestic enterprises in the new energy field in the Middle East continues to increase. The Saudi Arabian Al Ghat wind power project has not only achieved the large-scale overseas landing of domestically produced large capacity wind turbines, but also further enhanced the reputation of the Chinese power construction brand in the international high-end new energy market with its ultra-high construction efficiency and reliable engineering quality. In the future, it will also become one of the core business cards for China's wind power industry chain to go global.Editor/Gong Ziwei
