In the southeast coast of Vietnam, beneath the shimmering sea surface, a deep-sea game that concerns the country's energy lifeline is quietly coming to an end. As the surrounding gas fields gradually deplete and the gas shortage in the southern industrial zone widens, everyone's attention is focused on the 15-1 block, which has huge reserves of natural gas. Now, with the signing of a key natural gas purchase and sale agreement, this dormant deep-sea treasure has been completely awakened, not only solving Vietnam's future gas shortage dilemma, but also opening the prelude to a new wave of offshore oil and gas development.

Define production capacity scale

Significant breakthroughs have been made in the development of natural gas near the coast of Vietnam. Pelenco Vietnam's subsidiary has signed a natural gas purchase and sale agreement for the 15-1 Block Baihu Phase II B project, becoming an important milestone in the project's implementation. The project is located in the southeast coast of Vietnam, with a full cycle gas supply of over 600 billion cubic feet and a peak day gas supply of 150 million standard cubic feet, filling the continuously rising gas gap in the local area.

The project adopts a composite development plan, renovating existing oil and gas facilities, building a new CGF, and supporting drilling up to 15 gas wells. The new and old projects will simultaneously explore the gas production potential of the block.

Renewal and deepening of long-term cooperation

This purchase and sale agreement promotes the steady development of Block 15-1. The company has renewed its production sharing contract in 2025 and extended its cooperation period with Petrovietnam and Vietnam Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company for 25 years. The company revealed that the Baihu Phase II B project can achieve full production by June 2028, and various development and construction work is being carried out in an orderly manner at this stage. Block 15-1 is a core oil and gas production area in Vietnam and an important pillar of domestic energy supply.

Multiple value benefits promote multi-party development

The industrial and power generation gas consumption in southern Vietnam continues to rise, and stable local gas sources are particularly crucial. This project can not only expand domestic natural gas reserves, ensure electricity and gas supply for southern production, but also strengthen Vietnam's long-term energy security. The current trend of offshore oil and gas development in Southeast Asia is on the rise, and many countries are accelerating the construction of local gas fields to alleviate their dependence on imported energy.
