RVNL just received a large order. India's railway infrastructure leader has received a milestone contract from mining giant NMDC to build a modern iron ore processing system in the Visakhapatnam region of Andhra Pradesh. The total cost of the project is approximately 29.77 billion rupees, covering 472 hectares of land and taking 42 months from concept to commissioning and production.
This is not an ordinary railway project. The facilities include buffer storage and mixing fields, with a designed annual processing capacity of 10 million tons, specifically designed for mixing iron ore to meet the needs of domestic and foreign customers. The project integrates civil construction, material handling, and railway infrastructure into a complete logistics hub.

From road construction to field building
RVNL is a Navratna enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, which used to specialize in railways, subways, and highways. The New Panban Bridge, the Rishikesh Kanapraag railway connection line, the Ten Cities subway project, and the Wande Balat sleeper train set are all designed by it. But this time it is a material handling system, which belongs to the category of industrial infrastructure, indicating that RVNL is extending its railway engineering capabilities to the mining logistics field.
For NMDC, this facility addresses the urgent need for capacity evacuation. The demand for the Indian steel industry is on the rise, and iron ore production is also climbing. Without modern mixing plants and buffer warehouses, product quality control and shipping efficiency cannot be improved. Once this hub is put into operation, NMDC's domestic and international market service capabilities will take a step forward.
472 hectares in 42 months
The schedule is quite tight. RVNL is responsible for the entire process from conceptual design to production, including engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and testing. A 472 hectare site with an annual processing capacity of 10 million tons is considered medium to large for infrastructure projects in India. Keywords: logistics hub. railway transportation

RVNL officials have made it clear that India needs an integrated infrastructure that seamlessly connects natural resources, industry, and logistics networks. This statement is true. From railways to ports to material handling, India's infrastructure leaders are all moving towards the full chain direction. Whether RVNL can stand firm in mining logistics depends on the Visakapatnam project.Editor/Cheng Liting
