A chemical butterfly transformation is brewing in the tidal sound of Tongzhou Bay on the north wing of the Yangtze River estuary. In this thriving green chemical expansion zone, PetroChina has laid out a million ton ethane light hydrocarbon project, not competing for scale but for gold content; Breaking through overseas monopolies with independent technology, driving high-end new material pipelines with green electricity, quietly reshaping the value coordinates of the chemical industry in East China.

The project is located in the main port area of Tongzhou Bay Green Chemical Expansion Zone. Plan to construct multiple sets of production facilities, including million ton ethylene cracking, cracking gasoline hydrogenation, polyethylene, butadiene extraction, synthetic ammonia, polypropylene and rubber, POE new materials, and supporting public auxiliary facilities. Blue Ocean New Materials (Tongzhou Bay) was registered and established in 2024, under the jurisdiction of PetroChina. The enterprise plans to use the reserved land in the factory area to invest in this project, with a total investment of over 22 billion yuan. The implementation of the project can help PetroChina explore the high-end new materials market in East China, promote the development of the domestic new materials industry, and align with the trend of transformation and upgrading in the refining industry.

The project uses self-produced and imported ethane and LPG light raw materials, with low production costs and strong market competitiveness; The ethylene unit adopts an electric drive scheme, combined with green electricity to reduce carbon emissions. Keywords: CNPC, POE, chemical industry

Downstream layout of high value-added polyolefin new materials to enhance the value of the industrial chain. The complete set of core processes is independently developed by PetroChina, breaking through overseas technological monopolies and producing high-end products such as metallocene polyethylene and ethylene octene copolymers. The overall construction progress of the high-end polyolefin project under construction by the enterprise during the same period has been completed by 91.2%.Editor/Gong Ziwei
