At the foot of the Caucasus Mountains, the old railway tracks in Tbilisi are waiting for a silent transformation. As the flood of private cars gradually congests the streets and alleys, the eyes of this ancient city are once again turned to those forgotten suburban railway lines. A research and bidding on "stock revitalization" is trying to awaken the dormant steel veins and weave a green flowing skeleton of the urban circle.

Planning and research to initiate bidding process

Local business media in Georgia have revealed that the mayor of Tbilisi has publicly announced that the Asian Development Bank is soliciting professional consulting firms from around the world to conduct feasibility research and bidding for local urban railway projects. The project construction plan, economic benefits, and overall investment volume will be comprehensively evaluated, and the relevant intention declaration channel will soon be closed.

The core of this research work is to build high-frequency suburban passenger transport lines based on the existing railway network in Georgia, and to conduct comprehensive technical and economic evaluations for multiple urban and suburban passenger transport channels. If necessary, alternative plans such as new bypass tracks will also be discussed.

The survey covers comprehensive evaluation content

This consulting service is supported by a special fund, and the service team needs to comprehensively assess the environmental, livelihood, and financial impacts of the project, select the optimal construction plan, output a complete implementation plan, and clearly organize the subsequent construction progress process. The research period covers long-term passenger flow prediction, calculates the potential scale of private cars transferring to rail transit, and provides a complete set of optimization suggestions for station layout, train selection, operation and maintenance sites, and fare mechanism. Carrying the vision of urban transportation development

The rail transit project is jointly promoted by the local municipal government and Georgian railway enterprises, and belongs to the overall plan of green and sustainable transportation in the capital. It aims to revitalize existing rail resources and comprehensively upgrade public transportation facilities in the urban area. As early as many years ago, the local area planned to build urban rail transit lines, connecting the airport and surrounding towns in stages. The planning and implementation process had been stagnant for a long time, and this survey and bidding laid a key foundation for the project's restart.Editor/Gong Ziwei
