Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has announced the latest energy transformation results, with clean energy accounting for 21.5% of Dubai's overall electricity structure. Behind this number is a microcosm of a desert city accelerating towards a green future. With the support of the core project of Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park and the comprehensive implementation of the 7 billion dirham smart grid strategy, Dubai is steadily moving towards the target of 36% clean energy by 2030 and the global clean energy production capacity by 2050 at a clear pace.

Solar parks lead the world
Dubai's new energy production capacity continues to expand, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park currently has a total installed capacity of 3860 megawatts, which is expected to exceed 8000 megawatts by 2030, significantly surpassing the initial planned target of 5000 megawatts. The project adopts the globally mature IPP independent developer model, attracting international capital and leading energy companies through public-private partnership mechanisms, which not only lowers the cost of local new energy construction, but also sets a cost benchmark for global photovoltaic projects. Among them, four phases of the project integrate photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies, winning four Guinness World Records. Seven phases of the project will add clean energy installations and advanced energy storage systems, continuously improving Dubai's green energy ecology.

Photothermal energy storage and green hydrogen go hand in hand
In addition to the photovoltaic industry, Dubai actively lays out diversified clean energy tracks. The first Hata pumped storage hydropower station in the bay has been built, with an installed capacity of 250 megawatts, an energy storage capacity of 1500 megawatt hours, and a designed service life of up to 80 years. At the same time, Dubai continues to invest in areas such as solar thermal power generation, battery energy storage, and green hydrogen, building a new comprehensive energy system with stronger resilience and a more complete system, providing multidimensional technical support for the global clean energy transformation. 7 billion dirhams to build a digital base
At the level of smart grid construction, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has launched the 2035 smart grid strategy, with a total investment of 7 billion dirhams and approximately 1.9 billion US dollars. It focuses on six core directions and 19 supporting measures to optimize power transmission and distribution efficiency, reduce pipeline losses, and accurately regulate electricity loads. By relying on the self-healing system of smart grid and AI digital technology, automatic isolation of power grid faults and unmanned rapid power restoration can be achieved, ensuring stable power supply around the clock. At present, the average annual power outage duration for users in Dubai is only 0.82 minutes, with transmission and distribution network losses as low as 2%. The reliability rate of the power system exceeds 99.99%, and the operation and maintenance indicators remain at the forefront of the world.Editor/Gao Xue
