Recently, on the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Lyon in the Mediterranean Sea, three huge white wind turbines were rotating in the wind, continuously supplying clean electricity to the French power grid. This is not an ordinary wind farm - with the biological habitat cabin designed by the French local company Ecoocean entering the sea along with the foundation, the world's first floating offshore wind power project that combines power generation and marine ecological restoration has officially announced full capacity grid connection, marking a new milestone in deep-sea energy development.

Breakthrough in deep-sea wind power technology

The total installed capacity of the project is 30 megawatts, with a total of 3 10 megawatt units installed. It adopts a semi submersible floating foundation and stands in the deep water area 16 kilometers away from the coast. This design breaks the water depth limitation of fixed foundations and marks the transition of floating wind power technology from experimentation to large-scale commercial use. During the 20-year operation period, the project's annual power generation can reach 110000 megawatt hours, which is sufficient to meet the annual electricity needs of about 50000 residents and significantly increases the proportion of renewable energy in France.

Establishing a benchmark for ecological symbiosis model

Unlike traditional engineering, the biggest highlight of this project is the implantation of a biological habitat module and an artificial marine habitat system. This facility is attached to the wind power foundation, providing breeding space for juvenile fish and benthic organisms to avoid natural enemies. It successfully verified the feasibility of actively restoring the marine ecological environment while developing clean energy, and created a new industry paradigm for the coordinated development of offshore wind power and marine biodiversity conservation. Deep benefits of European supply chain

The project highly relies on local manufacturing advantages, with 99% of direct suppliers coming from Europe, of which 85% are French domestic or operating enterprises, and small and medium-sized enterprises account for up to 60%. This not only drives regional employment and technological upgrading, but also demonstrates Europe's full industry chain strength in the field of high-end offshore equipment. The successful implementation of this project provides a highly valuable French solution for the development of deep-water wind power resources in Mediterranean coastal countries.Editor/Gao Xue
