The sudden airstrike at Sana'a International Airport in Yemen has forced the process of downgrading the situation in the region to be interrupted, and tensions in the Middle East have once again escalated. Faced with the risk of escalating regional conflicts, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting, and the Chinese representative spoke out on site to convey a clear position for easing the situation and resolving disputes.

Facing the escalating situation head-on
On July 13th, the Security Council held an emergency public meeting on the situation in the Middle East, and China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, made a statement on the tense situation in Yemen. On that day, Sana'a International Airport was hit by an airstrike, causing the situation in the region to continue to deteriorate. The ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran was severely challenged. The Chinese side expresses high concern about this and insists on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern countries, adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter, and making every effort to protect the safety of civilians and civilian facilities. We call on all parties to exercise restraint and prevent extreme actions that escalate conflicts.

Advocate for peace and reconciliation
The Chinese side has made it clear that military means cannot resolve the Middle East conflict, and restarting the conflict is not in line with the core interests of all parties. The Chinese side urges the United States and Iran to implement the existing cooperation consensus, stop using force to deter, restart negotiations and consultations as soon as possible, promote a comprehensive agreement recognized by multiple parties, and ensure the safe and smooth passage of the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, we advocate for the international community to respect the development traditions of the Middle East region, support the independent development of regional countries, replace confrontation with cooperation, build a sustainable regional security architecture, and help the Middle East overcome conflict and achieve long-term peace and stability.Editor/Min Jing
